“My Music” by Army of Ghosts is taken from the forthcoming album Totems. A collection of 90s-inspired drum & bass tracks focusing on positivity and respect. Each track is an ode to either a style or a producer that moved or inspired us during the early to mid-nineties.

Totems is a passion project that aims to channel our creativity and spread joy. It pays respect to labels and artists whose originality and creativity inspired us and generations of electronic music fans and producers.

It seems fitting to begin this final Army of Ghosts project by returning to how it started – a collaboration with John from Foul Play.

I met John through Twitter after discovering he was still making music under the name Johnny Halo. Like many of us at the time, he was interested in creating music at a slower tempo than drum & bass, but his love for jungle remained.

We began discussing collaborating, and he sent over stems for a track called Red (or it might have been Redd). Dominic and I sifted through the parts to find our favourites, programmed a chunky broken beat, and then added vocal samples to give it character.

Dominic and I produced the track in my front room and titled it “Deep Redd”. One of many nerdy references we would make in our music to classic horror films that Dom and I have a passion for. We later recorded music together under the names Argento and Romero, referencing two film directors whose work we admire.

The artist name Army of Ghosts comes from recording that track as John also produces under the name Skeleton Army, while Dominic mainly uses Sonar’s Ghost as his artist name, and I also go by the name A Hungry Ghost, due to the name of the blog I used to run.

Army of Ghosts has a fluid line-up, although Dominic or I are the constant members, we don’t always work together on the tracks and other producers have also worked with us, especially on this album, all under the name Army of Ghosts.

“My Music” is a collaboration between Dominic and John, a tribute to tracks that would have been played at clubs like Speed & Swerve in the mid-nineties.

Soulful and uplifting, “My Music” is the perfect way to launch the Totem project.

Biography:
\Noe-et-tik\ Music producer, instrumentalist, composer, poet, turntablist, Hip Hop dancer, and performing artist. Noetik the Alchemist began djing in 2004, studying the art of turntablism and mixing. In 2008 Noetik began his studies of audio recording and music production. Noetik was quickly drawn to beat making for lyricists and underground events. While dedicating his life to Hip Hop culture Noetik became strongly influenced by breakbeat, world music and future bass. In the process of creating new genres of music, anchored by the back bone of Hip Hop, Noetik relocated to the California Bay Area in 2010. After being submerged into West Coast Bass Music, Noetik began making music to compliment his recordings of tablas, wood winds, berimbaus and various world instruments.

The last dance of a series that I co-hosted with Ashley Chipurda in Calgary, AB. This past 5 months has been a joyous journey through sound, rhythm and connection. For the final element we explored inner and outer space. It is with intentional space that we provide ourselves and each other enough room to heal. 

I am grateful to all that participated and for all that supported our efforts. It was an honour to take part in creating medicine space for the people.

This set which was created for and performed as part of Inshala 12 - 'The Unknown' on June 27th, 2020 [http://www.inshala.ca/]. I was so honoured to be a part of Inshala's weekend of online programming, and was (I believe) my 4th time performing at the festival -- which is one of my favourite gatherings. I also created a score of visuals to go along with the performance which was streamed via Twitch, from 5-6pm. I aimed to build the energy throughout the set, well offering a variety of healing sounds. I am incredibly pleased with the results and hope you enjoy.

Since their humble beginnings at a community radio station in 2003, little.fiery.one has been exploring the craft of mixing music with an ear for unique, beautiful, ambitious and experimental sounds. Punctuated with a variety of genres and styles little.fiery.one's sets aim to help create warm, open and explorative dancefloors that invite dancers deep into their dance. 

A trans/genderqueer 3rd generation settler, they currently reside and dance upon Treaty 6 territory, within the traditional territories for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Métis, Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuline (Dene), Nakota Siou (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and many others. 

As someone deeply invested in dance in its many forms, they have helped shape dancefloors at a variety of festivals gatherings, ecstatic dance events, and house parties.
