Blank Realm:

Some are already calling 2014 ‘the year of Blank Realm’ and why not? They’ve received glowingly positive reviews for their new record, Grassed Inn, from the likes of Pitchfork; Mojo; The Wire and The Guardian.

The Brisbane quartet are taking their psychedelic slacker-rock worldwide and all good plans have to start somewhere so they started last week at The Underdog in Brisbane. The live recording team were there for an album launch full of drunken revelry, a celebration of all things realm. The crowd were dancing all around the racket, at one point one lucky punter found themselves clinging to the lighting rig for dear life.

Supports on the night were local garage-pop brats Thigh Master, frown-rockers Sewers, Sydney’s electro/experimental heroine Lucy Cliché and living-room rave band Four Door.

Greg Charles & The Ex-Catholics:

Greg Charles is a Toowoomba-born songwriter with about 20 years of experience on the scene in SE QLD, he's been a member of Blonde Cobra and 6Majik9, earned the first Grant McLennan fellowship awarded in 2007 and released a solo album 'Rough Music' in 2016. The Ex-Catholics are his band and consist of Dylan Jeffries on bass, Alexander 'Sleepy Morrison' on drums and Sky McNicol on violin, they've previously played in support of Ed Kuepper and Jim White.

Terra Pines are a grungegaze/sludgepop miasma of genres formed in Meanjin around 2015. They've released seven singles and two albums since formation and they remain intent on an ever-shifting shoegaze-heavy pop music laden with effects and rock riffs.

Live Delay - Ep 434 - Greg Charles & The Ex-Catholics; & Terra Pines

Babaganouj:

Starting in 2011, Babaganouj have become an absolute songwriting powerhouse in the last 5 years releasing too many singles and EP’s to name, as well as touring the east coast more times than we can keep track of. Their garage pop sound is always dripping with the glowing sunbeams you can expect from a Brisbane band, but what makes them unique is songwriting and vocal duties are shared equally between the three members Harriette Pilbeam, Ruby McGregor, and Charles Sale. 

They’ve even taken the extra step in this direction by recording three separate EP’s for release this year, with each one written solely by one member. And although they may share the songwriting duties, their songs are always catchy, upbeat, and there to keep the good times rolling.

The Goon Sax:

Like their name would probably indicate, The Goon Sax are a teenage trio who write songs about being an awkward adolescent, while still being that awkward adolescent. Their songs cover everything from home haircuts, ice cream, and not being able to work at target. Put simply, they have found a way to turn the mundane pieces of growing up in suburbia and write catchy, jangly indie pop songs about it.  Their debut album ‘Up to Anything’, which came out on the Chapter Music label in March 2016, has seen them tour nationally and internationally, and even scored great reviews from international tastemaker publications Pitchfork and NME.

From the heart-pounding swagger of nationally-beloved live favourites to the sharp thrill of innovative new artists, our team scoured venues great and small across Meanjin/Brisbane to ensure you never missed out on the finest musical treasures the city had to offer. For eleven years, Live Delay brought the thrilling sound of our live music scene to the community and archived these live recordings and broadcasts through our Soundcloud page. In 2024, for a variety of creative and pragmatic reasons, Live Delay switched from a pre-recorded podcast-style program to a live broadcast from 4ZZZ Studio 2 each Friday afternoon featuring a live gig guide and various other up-to-the-minute information about live music in Meanjin/Brisbane.

On air from January 2013 to November 2024, Live Delay was broadcast on 4ZZZ, Zed Digital, and the Community Radio Network. The program is currently on indefinite hiatus.
