About a year ago, I with the help of my sweet friend Liza Anne, decided to cover my absolute favorite Prince song, I Would Die 4 U.  We worked hard to create something beautiful enough to justify altering the timeless original, and after it was finished we ended up shelving it, not knowing how or when to release it.  Today I understand.  My hope is that this cover would help us all celebrate the life and the legacy of such a brilliant man.

Formed in Houston, Texas, Lovelast is the indie pop project of singer/songwriter Chase Rutherford-Jenkins. Now based in San Francisco, Lovelast's style ranges from cinematic and soaring to minimalist and intimate.

Lovelast's first album December was released in late 2011, followed by the stripped-down Midwinter EP in early 2013. When Jenkins embarked on the 2015 full-length album Home—recorded in the midst of relocating from Texas to California—he began moving in a direction more focused on keys and programming. The sound continued to evolve with his most recent release, The Beauty and the Fire, recorded and mixed entirely in Jenkins' San Francisco apartment.

Lovelast is actively working on a new EP expected to be released in 2020, further refining the keys-driven sound of his recent work while remaining rooted in Jenkins' introspective lyrics and evocative melodies.
