It's a sort of broken/electronica influenced track, which you may have heard before on my Modus and Contortions live sets. It's pretty noisey I admit, but hopefully in a way that carries the energy of the track, rather than just exploding peoples eardrums!

MORT-MOI - Quantétiseur

When it comes to underground music of Soviet Union, then Yuri Morozov (Russian: Юрий Морозов, March 6, 1948 – February 24, 2006) was probably it's biggest legend. Morozov was extremely productive and stylistically his music had very wide range of influences - from acoustic psych folk to avant garde electronics, from lo-fi freakbeat to epic art rock. I carefully went through his huge discography and made this mixtape to introduce the wild and eccentric side of Yuri Morozov, only to prove that DIY experimental music in USSR wasn't just an urban legend. It really existed!

PYRAMIDS (CHIARANO - TV)

Nascono come Skazz nell’inverno del ’79 con l’intento di fare punk. Dopo vari avvicendamenti e cambi di ruolo, si costituisce la formazione definitiva, che cambia il nome in Pyramids. In seguito vengono introdotti synth polifonici e sequencer che danno alla band un taglio più elettronico, mentre la cura del sound e degli aspetti tecnici dei live viene affidata all’amico Mario. Numerose le collaborazioni con musicisti dell’area veneta e nazionale, come molti i concerti e i brani incisi, due dei quali per le compilation “St. Anthony’s Fire” (Grillo Rekords, 1983) e “Rockgarage Compilation Vol.4” (MASO, 1984). Nel 1986 lo scioglimento, Ivano continua come solista, mentre gli altri proseguono fino al 2000 come Pyramids, con due nuovi elementi e con testi in italiano.

The music of the band is deeply influenced by and related to the experimental electronic music of the late 1970s and early 1980s, that was made in Sheffield by bands like The Future/The Human League, Vice Versa, Cabaret Voltaire, or by the formerly in Preston based musician Colin Potter and a few American avant-garde artists, pioneering in electronic music, like John Bender, etc.. Although the band is very careful in creating a minimal electronics sound, obviously appearing vintage in itself, it is produced in a hybrid way, by using analogous procedures and modern techniques of production as well. So in the end Lower Synth Department is concerned with post-minimal electronics so to speak.
 
The name of the band is related to at least three different references, which intercommunicate and therefore depict the sound of the band: first to the cold aesthetics of modernist, especially brutalist architecture, which conveyed and expressed a very dehumanized attitude to life from the 1950s till the 1960s, that still affected even the 1980s. Second, technically speaking, to the low frequency oscillator, which creates a rhythmic pulse or sweep and is often used to modulate synthesizers, delay lines and other audio equipment in order to create effects used in the production of electronic music, while the final reference derives from the band's name abbreviation.
