Early Fall on Ross 128-b

Spend a typical day on Wilder Street and you will observe the drug dealers on the corner (jovial, confident and territorial). A few doors along there is a homeless shelter. Most nights a small crowd gather outside (noisy, drunk, high and aggressive) and quite often they argue amongst themselves but sometimes they sing.
Wilder Street is an edgy changeable environment though often surprisingly comical. The music in this piece is representative of the dark yet lively scene.
The piece was performed by the excellent 'Tippett Quartet' in December 2011 at the University of London - Senate room.

La persecución, el aislamiento y la matanza (the chase, the standoff and the kill) is written for bassoon, trumpet, trombone, Harp, snare and timpani drums. An unusual arrangement but that was the point. I had the pleasure of recording with members of the Welsh National Orchestra at both the Millennium centre in Cardiff and at my studio in Bristol. They did a fine job.
