In  just  a  year  of  existence,  Chloé’s  Lumière  Noire  has  brought  emerging  artists  and  promising  newcomers  together  –  and  this  first  compilation  of  13  brand  new  tracks  expands  the  roster,  exposing  the  label’s  eclectic  vision  in  full  daylight.  When  Chloé  talks  about  her  label,  she  puts  forward  the  fundamental  values  that  informed  her  own  musical  journey,  her  trust  in  her  own  musical  taste  –  and,  of  course,  the  predominance  of  human  relationships:  “I  followed  my  bliss  and  only  commissioned  tracks  from  artists  that  I  respect  and  whose  music  I  love.  That  to  me  is  Lumière  Noire’s  musical  palette.”With  this  13-track,  unmixed  compilation,  Chloé  makes  a  case  for  a  label  aesthetic  that  is  based  in  open-mindedness.  Familiar,  elemental  Lumière  Noire  artists  are  represented,  as  are  new  faces,  producing  a  kind  of  group  photo  presaging  what’s  next  for  the  fledgling  label.  Lyon’s  Markus  Gibb  leads  the  track  listing  with  Kuru  with  a  deep  chiaroscuro  matching  the  label’s  ethos,  followed  by  other  mainstays  Il  Est  Vilaine’s  Farenheit  451,  which  evokes  Ray  Bradbury’s  retro-dystopic  angst  with  the  band’s  usual  electro-pop  elegance.  Sutja  Gutierrez,  who  released  in  debut  EP,  The  Legend  of  Time  on  Lumière  Noire  in  April,  pursues  his  electro-Shamanism  with  the  ceremonial  Allodoxaphobia,  while  Iñigo  Vontier  (whose  EP  Aluxes  came  out  on  the  label  in  late  2017)  brings  his  Contra  project  online  with  track  Taurus,  a  further  development  in  voodoo  house.  Elsewhere,  Suuns  lead  singer  Ben  Shemie,  who  lent  his  fascinating  art-rock  croon  to  Recall,  a  single  from  Chloé’s  Endless  Revisions  LP,  contributes  A  Million  Kinds,  a  synthy,  psych-pop  debut  that  is  as  brilliant  as  it  is  surprising.  On  to  the  freshman  class:  Dutch  producer  Drvg  Cvltvre  (who  gets  personal  kudos  from  Chloé  with  each  new  12”)  brings  the  uncompromising  dark  electro  of  his  hypnotic  and  claustrophobic  Last  Rites.  Jonathan  Fitoussi’s  airy,  minimalistic  Cercles  Polaires  brings  the  respite  of  his  recent  Versatile  Espaces  Timbrés  LP  (a  collaboration  with  Clemens  Hourrières):  “I  met  him  at  Xavier  Veilhan’s  Studio  Venezia  at  the  Venice  Biennale.  He’s  a  great  guy,  and  his  universe  is  unique,”  says  Chloé.  Benedikt  Frey’s  deep  techno  track  Iaon,  is  on  par  with  his  smash  2017  album,  Artificial,  out  on  ESP  Institute.    First-timers  are  also  part  of  the  recruits:  Bajram  Bili  with  the  ten  cerebral  minutes  of  Restart,  Théo  Muller  with  the  ultra-deep  Douce  Transe,  and  Lumi,  a  Basque  band  that  fuses  electronic  sounds  with  acoustic  instruments,  brings  the  compilation  to  a  close  with  a  track  commissioned  by  Chloé,  who  met  them  at  a  festival.  These  audacious  choices  are  anchored  down  with  the  likes  of  Permanent  Vacation  pioneer  Lauer’s  hooky,  80s-infused  Pythor  (“Just  like  him,  I  was  a  resident  of  the  Robert  Johnson,  and  he  was  a  guest  of  mine  at  one  of  my  Lumière  Noire  nights  at  the  Rex.  He  is  one  of  these  people  whose  music  I  highly  appreciate);  Aergeworc  &  Franck  Agrario,  half  of  English  duo  Swayzak  David  Brown’s  project,  weaves  an  ethno*  mood  into  Grace’s  techno.  Bringing  together  different  generations,  genres,  and  styles?  That  may  not  necessarily  be  Chloé’s  MO.  She  invokes  a  more  arbitrary,  personal  logic:  “I  like  to  mix  of-the-moment  tracks  and  more  timeless  one,  but  the  rule  is  above  all  ‘do  I  love  this  or  not?’.  That  was  my  ethos  when  I  started  Lumière  Noire.”  In  that  way,  the  label  is  definitely  in  keeping  with  its  time...

BALAM is a musician, producer and DJ from Buenos Aires, Argentina, after a long time working with his indie dance band that allowed him to play in many countries and festivals around the world, he gets all into his new solo project as producer and DJ “Balam” focusing on techno, disco, shamanic beats all produced and recorded in his studio combining real analog synthesizers, like modular synths, moogs with guitars, real and weird percussion sounds creating a unique atmosphere making every track a voyage through the latin american jungle.

At the moment he has two releases, “Chaman EP” released through french label ESTHETIQUE RECORDS (FR) in March 2018, available both digital and cassette, and an “Senderos de Selva” out on April 24 through PLAYGROUND RECORDS (BCN/ARG), plus remixes and a track for the Take Away series for the prestigious label Calypso Records from Iñigo Vontier and Thomas Jackson, a track coming soon for the new Spanish label United Colors of Rhythm, plus remixes for labels like Innisfallen (MX), Control (MX), Nein (UK), Emerald & Doreen (Gr).
In June 2018 he made his first USA mini tour with 2 gigs, one in the prestigious Brooklyn, New York radio “The Lot Radio” and the other one in the well known SAMO Records Night at Jupiter Disco, Brooklyn, New York.

Now he is planning his first Mexican tour with confirmed dates in CDMX, Toluca and Puebla plus more to be confirmed.

His work had been supported by artist like Thomas Von Party, Tronik Youth, Golden Bug, Perel, JP Soul, Curses, Rodion, Freudenthal, Thomass Jackson, Veneno, Clandestino, Local Suicide, Theus Mago, Roman and Castro, Marcos in Dub, James Rod, Colossio, K-effect, Man2.0, Connor, Gabriel Ferreira, Timothy Clerkin, Shit Happens, Owls at Down, Vverses, Facets, Dany Nijensohn, Shubostar, Iñigo Vontier, among others.

“Aerial / Paperbags” is the second EP from Scintii, aka Taiwanese producer/vocalist Stella Chung. The music is inspired by travels, dreams, stories and films of unsaid emotions. The production merges her influences of club music, memories of her father playing classical music while driving, as well as focusing on exploring her vocal abilities. The release also marks her first time working closely with another producer, Alexis Chan aka Soda Plains.

Scintii

Taiwanese producer/vocalist Scintii (aka Stella Chung), bears a diverse background in both studio composition and pop music which she studied whilst residing in London for several years.

Since her move to Shanghai in 2017, Scintii has become a core member of the thriving club scene in the city. She has played for i-D, Diskotopia on RBMA Radio Tokyo, NTS & Radar Radio. She recently played a number of London shows, including events at Southbank Centre, and headlining at Corsica Studios.

Mica, her first release, is inspired by the form and body of minerals, pensively underpinning dark, elusive, cut-up pop vocals with crystalline synths and rhythms from UK grime to the dembow for an enrapturing and refreshing sound. Her second EP Aerial / Paperbags is due late November this year, along with a few vocal collaborations with high profile artists.

@djraff first made his name in Chile where he helped to lay the foundation for what is now considered one of the most important hip-hop scenes in Latin America before progressing to producing electronic music. In the aftermath of the bloody 17 year military dictatorship that took over the country during the 70s, it wasn’t long before MCs and hip hop producers solidified an underground scene. Through his creative sampling, big beats and arrangements, DJ Raff propelled the scene forwards and his ability to seamlessly blend hypnotic electronic beats with traditional Chilean and Latin sounds have earned him a place among Latin America’s most highly regarded DJs and producers.

At 12 years old he started experimenting with a double tape deck and an old turntable to make loops and beats, not knowing he was on his way to forming the hip-hop and electronic music scene in Chile. Fast forward a few years and DJ Raff’s name now appears as a DJ/sound engineer/producer on over 50 hip-hop releases in Chile, including that of French-Chilean rapper Anna Tijoux’s group Makiza (before she went on to achieve mainstream success fueled by a sync on hit TV show Breaking Bad).

In 2011, DJ Raff released his game changing track ‘Latino & Proud’ on Nacional Records (Bomba Estereo, Ana Tijoux) which featured on EA Sports FIFA 2012 and was the theme tune for Comedy Central’s Emmy Award- winning series ‘Broad City’ in the US. Despite the success of his hip-hop productions, he gradually became more interested in experimenting with evocative instrumental music and so his journey into electronic music began in the early 2000s.

DJ Raff has has DJ-ed/played live shows at major events in South America and Europe like Sonar Barcelona, Mutek.ES, Lollapalooza (US, Argentina, Chile) and RBMA Mexico. Red Bull invited him to mentor at the RBMA Bass Camp academy in Chile and his last album, ‘Movimiento’, a collection of electronic tracks drawing on dembow, Brazilian and tropical influences, was released in 2017 on Nacional Records. The album earned him a nomination for best electronic music artist at the Pulsar awards in Chile.

Resistencia (Resistance), is DJ Raff's electronic interpretation of the resistance needed in our inescapably saturated world of advertising, consumerism and divisive politics. 

The artwork is by renowned Chilean artist Iván Navarro whose installation, ‘Homeless Lamp, The Juice Sucker’, reflects the EP’s theme of resilience and resistance in the face of adversity.

Hailing from the ancient Russian city of Tambov, on the banks of the Tsna River, the youngest member of the трип family Vladimir Dubyshkin emerges for a potent debut solo EP. cheerful pessimist is an engaging package of highly anticipated deep, swirling techno tracks that many will recognise from label head Nina Kraviz’s DJ sets.

Diving straight into the core of a peak time set, Vladimir unleashes five formidable doses of unrestrained energy. Swollen sub bass and thumping percussion forge an unmistakable sense of physicality, whilst spiralling, amelodic leads run circles around the listener.

cheerful pessimist wastes no time warming up, plunging head first into the belly of the beast. A thrilling debut and an essential release for lovers of vibrant techno.

For their final release of 2018, Planet E present DJ Deep & Traumer's remixes of Klauss & Craig, the collaboration between Argentinian synth ensemble Klauss and Carl Craig, which debuted with the ‘Momentum’ EP earlier in the year.

Out November 30th, the three-track remix EP’s origins were as a pair of spec mixes by DJ Deep (Cyril Etienne) and his regular collaborator Roman Poncet aka Traumer. The duo found inspiration from the original Klauss & Craig EP that led to spontaneous experiments on their own remixes.

Soon a trio of versions emerged, with two by the duo together, and an additional solo mix by Poncet under his Traumer alias. Etienne sent their work to Craig, who immediately decided to give them their own release on Planet E, in turn helping Etienne achieve one of his own dreams to release on the legendary Detroit label.

Weaving intricate percussive themes with analogue melodies they deliver two takes on ‘Repeat After Me’ - ‘Free Your Mind’ and ‘Free Your Soul’ - before Traumer, inspired by the process, goes on his own for the final track ‘Repeat After Me - Reduced Mind’, creating undulating bass loops which glide under warm pads.

Brainchild of Multi Culti A&R, Sascha Funke and Niklas Wandt were introduced by Dreems, who charted a course for the seasoned Berlin-based producer and funky multi-percussionist and singer. 

Wandt was just about to enter the scene forcefully with his collaborative 2LP with Wolf Müller and the debut single of his band Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge. In the icey cold of his warehouse rehearsal space, Funke had him record a variety of slapped, bowed and scratched percussions (congas, talking drum, prepared cymbals played with a bass bow) over his tracks. These first efforts were later expanded into joint sessions at Sascha's home studio and, within a few weeks, the journey reached it’s destination: Wibe strasse, Deutschland.

At first glance, they seem an odd couple: a techno veteran of almost thirty years meets a side-burned upstart socialized in Free Jazz and Krautrock. but the shared sonic influences come through in the hypnotic, dubbed-out sound, perhaps rooted in the close connection the two share to the Rheinland region in West Germany, Funke as part of the Kompakt family and Wandt by origin and socialization in the Cologne and Düsseldorf music scene centered around the Salon des Amateurs. Regional flavours, global appeal. Multi Culti, promoting local collaboration, one freaky record at a time.

Leipzig-based talent Credit 00 lands back on Uncanny Valley with his 'Deep In The Jungle' EP featuring a diverse stack of material inspired by the urban jungle where he resides. 

Leading off the release is a ravey breakbeat cut titled 'R You Ready 2 Jack' that pays tribute to Belgium new beat with a hint of hardcore influence that comes from the heart. On this side of the record Credit 00 draws from the gritty concrete environment where he resides while the flip side aims to showcase the lush garden oasis of his backyard. With a contrast like this, the 'Deep In The Jungle' EP is a deep dive into Credit 00's world that delivers pure sonic bliss. Tip!
