Ode To Nefarious

NOTE: This song is a fan remake of the original track by Josh Mancell for the Naughty Dog game, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. I claim no credit for the original composition (also, be sure to check out Josh's page here on Soundcloud - he has tons of pre-console mixes of the soundtracks!).

Woo! I'm back after a long hiatus with a new track from my Jak and Daxter Rescored series! Get your winter coats, because this time we're headed to Snowy Mountain. 

This one was a nice change from the previous tracks I've remastered, as it's slower and more ominous sounding. I loved this level so much when I was young, especially because - iirc - you can look back at where you've been so far during the journey from the mountaintop. I also remember the sleigh bells feeling so perfect for the time, as I'd gotten a PS2 and this game for Christmas that year and played it nonstop as the snow raged outside. :D

I only have about one or two more tracks in this series before I tackle some Jak II tracks. The next one should be a bit longer - I'm so excited for it! A hint: epic boss.

As promised, here is the track from Daxter I mentioned I wanted to make: Strip Mine (though it technically is used in the opening cutscene too, so it's sort of a main title too, I think?). HOLY CRAP was this one of my favorite tracks from childhood, and I've dreamed of making my own version for years. 

I used to open the marketing site for Daxter and refresh its page and listen to this track ad nauseum on repeat because it was such a jam. Kudos for Jamey Scott for the original piece and to Ready at Dawn for making such a great Jak and Daxter game. Also, thanks to Orange Lightning too, of course, for saving Jak from prison. ;)

Now... onto Jak II music! :D

NOTE: the original soundtrack for Jak 2 was made by the wonderfully talented Josh Mancell, Larry Hopkins, and Mark Mothersbaugh. This track is an orchestral cover of the original Jak 2 Main Theme.

Fasten your rift rider seatbelts friends, because now we're headed to a much darker and epic orchestral cover future. This is the first of the Jak 2 orchestra covers I am making.

This track posed a special challenge - there are a lot of similarities between the first and second game's soundtracks (those percussion instruments, man), but Jak 2's soundtrack's tone is very different. Makes sense, given the cyberpunk dystopian setting and Jak's new fondness for swearing and guns :D . So I had to shift my focus to a darker, more epic sound for it, whereas the tracks I covered from the first game were more peaceful or whimsical.

I have about four more songs in mind to cover from Jak 2's soundtrack - please look forward to them!

In the Jak and Daxter Design Bible, there's an early world map which shows various places that did not make it in the final game. I asked myself, what would be a theme that would suit a Zoomer level connecting two of these places? So I gave it a try and came up with the Old Precursor Road, using mostly the original game's sounds.
