Max Hammer @maxhammur delivers a tip-top recording for MIX035​, a sun-drenched blend of boogie-disco juice that glides between eras and continents with real flair. No fancy flips, just straight-up entertaining grooves served as they were meant to be heard ​, and like the man himself, full of character​.

Now based in Naarm/Melbourne, Max (a Glaswegian native) is the co-organiser of SANGAM, a fresh monthly celebration of sound, culture, and style ​that's hosted in some of the city’s most ridiculously cool and intimate venues. Influenced by early sound system sessions at The 78, late nights at Le Cheetah, and more, he brings with him a slice of Glasgow’s underground spirit.

This mix is steeped in that same energy​...think off-peak mystical grooviness that feels both nostalgic and new. From the driving pulse of Tabou Combo’s “Let’s Do The Groove”, to the smoky uplift of Eloise Whitaker’s “I Will Fight”, Max digs with heart, jumping borders with ease.

Proper inspiring stuff from the man.

Mix of the Week #591: Universal Cave - Soft Rock For Hard Times Vol. 9

And now, a little bit of JAZ

John Zahl, also known as JAZ, is a DJ and record collector based in New York, USA, well-known for his eccentric edits and oddball mixes. We managed to connect with John after he'd arrived back in NYC after a few months spent travelling.

His mix, which was actually recorded nine years ago for Sanpo Disco on NTS Radio, features many of his all-time favourite records. He tells us these are songs that he still loves, and which remain in constant rotation. We'd like to mention a few of the tracks, starting with the lovely slo-mo/Italo disco record 'Non Ricordo, Ma Piangendo', B-side of a rare 7" by Giancarlo Aspromonte. Pit Troja's 'Der Voodoo Mann' from 1985 can only be described as German hip-hop over a Moroder-esque bass-line, wonderfully eccentric, as advertised! The late great Björn Holm's 'Tid At Stå Stilla' from his 1984 LP Bortom Gränsernas Hav, takes us into Swedish synth-pop territory. The mix features a few of JAZ's own edits, including 'Cloud Worship' which has to be one of our favourite edits of all time, just superb. This is an exceptionally well put-together mix, and despite the wide range of material, it flows perfectly and naturally, as a good eclectic mix should do.

Last Sunday, Eternal Love joined me for a special Free Association on Soho Radio.  Straight off the back of a big party weekend for us all, we kept the club-energy going with a b3b all the way through the show.

Free Association #38 w/ Sam Don & Eternal Love - July 2025

Task was pretty easy and simple - collect and put together in one selection all "Ambient" (or whatever) material from various albums from 2018 onwards. 

I had to do it for couple of reasons:

Space Ghost himself didn't put out yet compilation of "ambient works", which would be stellar compilation;

He's mainly known - as far as I'm aware - for his Dance and RnB/Downtempo related stuff... but somehow Ambient was lost between pounding House tracks on releases.

First I heard one album and I was "Aha, ok, cool stuff... ambient to bridge between House music". Then, another album, another, all containing magnificent ambient/new age/esoteric/synth/space works than in the end culminated in my Space Ghost Tidal Ambient playlist. On repeat, for years...

Here's an hour of finest floating music. Hope he'll make some official move to make more of albums like this and release it on - God forbid - Limited 2xCD release.
