Commande du Logelloù, centre d’exploration et de création à Penvénan situé dans les Côtes-d'Armor. Création en septembre 2021 sur le site remarquable du Yaudet au bord de l’estuaire du Léguer. 

 Un voyage acousmatique imprégné de l’odeur de l’estuaire et de ses eaux mêlées, celle de la vase, de la matière primordiale.
L’union intime de la terre et de la mer caractérise l’ambiance des côtes d’Armor. Il est impossible de distinguer avec netteté́ la limite entre la terre et la mer, entre les éléments solides et fluides. Les rochers, la mer, la rivière, l’estran, les herbues... s’articulent entre eux, la mer entre dans les terres par les estuaires. 
Avec des sons de Noëlle Deffontaines (sable, vase), Benjamin Dousteyssier (saxophone), Christine Groult, Marc Namblard (audionaturaliste), Lê Quan Ninh (grosse caisse), Ana Speyart(boue).

My new album "Phant[as]" is out via Aesthetical, the sub-label of Cyclic Law.

“Imagined as a lucid nightmare, fuelled by my various inner struggles, Phant[as] is a trip into the depths of imagination. The project is inspired by Phantasmagoria, a form of theatre that was most popular in Paris in the 18th century, in which images of skeletons, demons and ghosts were projected onto walls and/or sheets. During these performances, there was a rapid succession of lights, smoke, illusions, ghosts and spectres that deceived and amazed the audience. The album then revolves around the concept of "illusion" to be understood as a succession of images, sounds, colours, objects, actions that vividly affect the senses and imagination showing unreal and intangible figures, but still visible and paralysing, just like our fears are. In fact, each track deals with my different turmoils, negative thoughts that have conditioned the last few years of my life and describe uneasy conditions shared by most of my peers. The project is presented as a cathartic experience in which I exorcise my mental ghosts and confronts challenges with the powerful and persuasive weapon that is sound, composed of obsessive rhythms and evanescent atmospheres. Finally, the reference to the Magic Lanterns is linked to my research in the field of audiovisuals, since they were the first performances in which an attempt was made, through the combination of motion graphics, light games and sound, to obtain greater sensorial and emotional involvement with the public.”

The plan for + arose from being a young parent, and dealing with the combination of working on music at the same time. Focusing on long-form music proofed challenging. So I came up with the idea to work on super short tracks that each could be made within a short span of time, and to do this with ‘a few’ collaborators. This concept worked out brilliantly (especially because of the enthousiastic responses from the artists I invited to join), and in no time the project grew a lot bigger than anticipated.

So, + is a selection of no less than 52 short pieces, each with a different collaborator. The variety is huge, with jazz cats, electronica wizards, classical players, and more.

Each contributor was asked to send a one-minute recording. No other guide lines were given (because I love surprises). These submissions were then treated/reworked into the audio miniatures you’ll find on the album. And it’s safe to say that these tracks are all over the place, stylistically.

Next step was to sequence everything into a more or less coherent album. It’s up to the listener to decide if that mission was accomplished. But it surely is an intruiging trip.

Parallel Worlds Fragmented DiN83

Greek synthesist Bakis Sirros who records under the name of Parallel Worlds has become a familiar name to followers of the DiN label. His debut release was “Obsessive Surrealism” (DiN26) back in 2007 and since then he has released two further solo albums, “Shade” (DiN32) and “Plector” (DiN76), as well as several collaborative albums with different artists including DiN label boss Ian Boddy & Node guru Dave Bessell.

This fourth sonic journey from Sirros on the DiN imprint sees him focusing in on his modular synthesiser systems, especially the Eurorack format with some able support from Buchla. These massive constructed patches live and breath like a crepuscular organism waking from its slumber. Indeed “Fragmented” is bookended by two wonderfully deep, textural tracks appropriately titled “Dawning” and “Sunset”. With the exception of the organ-like drone soundscape of “Time Flow” the remaining seven tracks encapsulate everything we have come to expect from this unique artist, namely dark, menacing bass lines overlaid with glitchy percussive patterns and beguiling, floating melody lines. It has certainly be noted before, but is worth reiterating, that there is a certain John Carpenter like soundtrack quality to the music of Sirros. Seemingly simplistic they shroud a wealth of detail and beauty that is revealed over repeated listening.

Lovers of Electronica, Dark Techno, Downtempo & IDM will find much to admire in “Fragmented” and this new album once again showcases the unique talent of this highly individual musician.
