In the second edition of our radio show 'The Endless Tape Machine', we look at the exceptional artist Airto Moreira, a genius on drums, percussion and his 120 other instruments. 

We mainly highlight the creative phase of the 70s with music by the following artists and bands:   
Antonio Carlos Jobim, Miles Davis, Weather Report, Steve Kuhn, Astrud Gilberto, Deodato, Chick Corea, Santana, Gato Barbieri, George Duke, Miroslav Vitous, Hermeto Pascoal, Al Di Meola, as well as pieces of his solo works and his wife Flora Purim. The sequence of songs is in chronological order.

The Endless Tape Machine #3 - Hot Barbecue

This edition is dedicated to the island of Jamaica and the music played there from 1965 to 1975. When the island was hit by an enormous heat wave at the end of the 60s, legend has it that the fast ska beat developed into a more slow-going sound - rocksteady. What we all associate with the style reggae was to follow a little later. In this issue we play almost exclusively tunes from the defining sound systems and labels of this period - Prince Buster, Studio One / Coxsone & Treasure Isle.

The Endless Tape Machine #4 - Jamaica

This episode takes us to Latin America to the popular sound of cumbia. The traditional folk dance draws its origins from African rhythms that were established by colonial slaves in Colombia, later mixed with indigenous and Spanish elements from there and spread further. Our show travels from 1954 to 2019 through Colombia, Peru & Panama where this music is still popular today. Mainly represented, the label 'Discos Fuentes' the powerhouse of Colombian music, still highly sought after by record collectors today. Plus the legendary groups Los Mirlos & Los Destellos from Peru along with sunny highlights from Panama.

We had the chance to invite Sacha Mambo for an intimate session in store followed by a club mix at Le Bourg (start at 2:10:54).

DJ and digger for over two decades, Sacha's (@mzkbx) musical culture taps into a wide spectrum of influences. He is one of those special DJs that manages to find the links between completely disparate kind of music to weave them together and create life changing moments with rich narratives to make you live a special experience on the dance-floor while keeping a proper color.

Playing a large range of styles from Experimental, Dub, to Early Rave, Jungle, Techno, Acid, or, New Wave to post-Punk, Krautrock or Chill-Out electronic sounds (depends of the vibe), his knowledge of rare gems and infectious oddball obscurities is second to none.

In his past life he used to be one of the resident DJ at Le Sucre in Lyon (circa 2013 to 2016), where he has earmarked his trademark. He has been touring all over the world (pre-covid era) and was channeling one of the best radio show existing « L’important dans la vie c’est de continuer de danser » for 8 long years on LYL radio. But most important, since 2012 Sacha runs the esteemed Macadam Mambo records (@macadam-mambo)electronic label, well know in the past for putting out incredible edits. And since 2017 focused on releasing only new original music from very talented artists like : Eva Geist, Eiger Drums Propaganda, Abschaum, Steve Pepe, Panoptique, Twoonky, Fallbeil, ADN’ Ckrystall, Houschyar or Zmatsutsi to name a few…

To abbreviate if you didn’t had the chance to hear about Sacha Mambo, it’s time to make a catch-up session!

Acid Youth is a project started in 2016 by Davide Nicosia, an electronic music producer based in Bologna.
Under the influence of Chicago House, Krautrock and EBM, https://soundcloud.com/acid-youth is a blend of troubled basslines, guitars, modular freakness, frozen pads, analogic distortions and overdriven drum machines.
After the previous releases on MFZ Records and Land of Dance Records, Acid Youth comes to Elephant Gait with "My Acid", a 4 tracks EP that is a psychedelic clash between acid and space rock. Saturated drum machine, 303, organ and guitar are the main elements of these tracks.
"Polyptych" pays tribute to motorik drum rhythms; "My Acid" and its tense west-coast synth line drive you in a dark territory; "Regrets" is a flux of sounds with a 303 bassline as a mantra; "Despite" and its major scale close the EP and resolve the tension.
