Caitlin Magnall-Kearns is a writer, performer, director and theatre-maker from Belfast who has been a prolific creator during the last two years, with a string of award-nominated productions debuting in theatres and online.

Caitlin’s new work-in-progress, ‘Bubbles’, is described as a ‘one-person karaoke comedy spectacular exploring the correlation between being fat and funny, performed by a funny fat person’.

I hadn’t spoken to Caitlin since the Covid-19 pandemic began. and so now seemed a good opportunity for a catch-up, and to explore some of the themes of representation and diversity driving Caitlin’s creative work.

Caitlin’s work-in-progress show for ‘Bubbles’ debuts live in the Camden People’s Theatre in London on Monday 29th November, presented by Barrel Organ.

Frazer Robb is stand-up comedian from Belfast, whose new solo show ‘All Lies and Jest’, opens at the Black Box on Thursday 2 December.

Frazer is one of my favourite Northern Irish comedians – bombastic, acerbic, brutally honest and, of course, funny. Like most of my favourite stand-ups, there is a thrill in watching his shows.

On a personal level – as someone I’ve known for a decade or so – I’ve always been inspired at his ability to drive himself through change, particularly around the time that he turned 40, when he quit doing darkly self-eviscerating stand-up under the stage name Morgan Hearst, took a trip to Chicago to study improv, and seemingly returned with a shiny glow of Zen-like openness.

As Frazer prepared for his new solo stand-up show, I was curious to find out what had been brewing in his mind during the Covid-19 years, and whether improv can change your life.
