Biography: 
Materielle is a Los Angeles-based techno artist whose deep, dub-influenced sound draws heavily from the rhythmic syncopations and atmospheric textures of '90s Detroit techno. Mixing elements of heavy, hypnotic basslines with complex patterns and immersive reverb, Materielle's music harnesses the raw energy and experimental edge of underground techno, with an eye for subtle detail and emotional depth. A self-taught producer with a decade-long career in music technology, Materielle has developed a distinctive sonic palette shaped by the teachings of pioneering artists such as Rødhåd, Claudio PRC, and Richie Hawtin. The name of Materielle is inspired by the fine art of weaving - an analogy to an artist's approach to music, where sound is created through layers and textures, much like fabrics are woven together to create something new.

Since 2019, Materielle has been honing her craft as a DJ, seamlessly transitioning into production with her single tracks Satin and Organza on Delusional Records and the release of her debut EP Fabrique on Northern Parallels. Featuring tracks Nylon and Neoprene with remixes from Mike Derer and Raytek, the EP gained attention for its unique blend of hypnotic grooves and emotionally charged atmospheres. Materielle’s recent release, a remix of Orly Gal’s The Man Without a Face, was selected by Beatport for their November Techno 2024 (peak/drive) shortlist, further cementing her growing presence in the techno scene. In early 2025, she contributed the track Kevlar to the Synthetik Minds VA compilation, a charity release in support of the Los Angeles fire relief efforts. Featuring leading artists from across the global techno scene, the collection highlights Materielle's commitment to both artistic collaboration and community impact.

Through her work, Materielle invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world of complex sound design where the boundaries between space and rhythm blur, creating a meditative yet immersive experience. Marie Nyx is a Los Angeles–based DJ, producer, and label head whose sound bridges electro, techno, and experimental electronica with roots in post-punk, new wave, and darkwave. She has brought her infectious, high-energy style to stages at HARD Summer, CRSSD Festival, Insomniac events, and prominent underground institutions like The Lot Radio. With releases on Delusional Records, Boysnoize Records, Obskur Music, Synthetik Sounds, Hidden Symbols, and Dark Heaven, Marie continues to push boundaries as both an artist and tastemaker. In 2025, she founded Synr, a label dedicated to forward-thinking electro, techno, and experimental sounds, solidifying her place as a driving force in the underground electronic scene.

Amplify Series 122 - Materielle B2B Marie Nyx (live at Unknown Perception 8/16/25)

Not that this is anywhere close to the great electronic neo-cumbia being created by El Keamo, El Satánico, Sistema Nacional de Cumbia, and many many others right now, but...inspired by them for sure. 

Composed by me on the Ableton Note, played live a few times, finally arranged and mixed by me in Live 12.

Here's the full set from my Dub Circle performance live from the rotunda in Camperdown Park, Sydney recorded on Nov 9th 2019. This was my first ever live performance using laptop, Maschine and an additional controller.

Dub Circle is a project developed together with visual artist Gabrielle Bates, which aimed to activate the park and create a new, modern interpretation of traditional ritual. 

Over 18 months I recorded sounds from Camperdown Park and the surrounding block using various mics and a zoom recorder. Exclusively using these sounds I created riddims combining field recordings, found percussion and melodic elements to create the soundtrack for the event. I also recorded and used reverb convolutions from spaces around the park from alleyways, basketball courts, kids slides, etc. If you're curious about any particular sounds leave a comment in the set timeline and I'll get back to you on how it was sourced. 

Dub Circle was performed from the rotunda in the park during a stunning sunset on Nov 9th 2019 on Sydney's infamous Inner West Reggae Disco Machine Soundsytem, also built in the local area. Dancers and community members of all ages and walks of life participated in a procession & dance around the cricket oval. Costumes and masks had been created throughout the year by Gabrielle Bates and additionally through a series of local workshops with community schools in the area.
