This song was written by Ken and a dearly departed friend and former bandmate named Chris Bennett about the latter's divorce that he was going through at the time when their band was also breaking up. Ken had a good demo of the two of them fleshing it out, which the Eclectic Collective used as a template for the song. Josh was first to add his unique slide bass line to the song. Next up was Tez, who added the fiery solo you hear at the end. Stephen came in not too long after with the rhythm guitar, complete with the intricate fills you hear throughout. Around the same time, Mark added some really innovative, genre-bending horns and shakers to it. Ken then completed the song with his stellar vocals. 

  Of course, every great song needs a great producer, so Ken turned it over to Stephen for an objective mix, although Ken was still heavily involved in the process, too. This is the first time Ken has sung lead for an EC song, and we were all very impressed with his skills on this one. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.

This song is a story dedicated to someone who caused a great deal of pain over a long period of time, and the memory of that relationship remains to this day a low water mark in my life.

I found out by writing this song, just how cleansing it is to just take a piece of paper and the guitar and sit down for a while and really focus on the bad stuff that's happened in my life and then get them out forever.

So when I was done, I felt that I really could move on with my life and my thinking and not stay stuck in that same mindset as I had been for years before me writing this one.

It's very personal to me, and perhaps It might become that to you who listens as well, we all go through bad times in our lives, weather it's drinking or drugs or other destructive behaviours, there are always a way out if it and it always starts, continues and ends with you and what you want to accomplish while making the change towards a better and a more healthier life in general.

A bad world is run by bad leaders, but if you try to run your own world without the interference of external forces and really focus on doing so to the extent where you almost eradicate yourself, when you come back from that, you will feel that the world has turned and what use to be a challenge for you in the past, is now to your advantage instead.

It's the "desertmarch" that's the trickiest part and not giving in and going back and settling for less than you deserve!

White Lilies And Black Baloons

One of my favorite songs is "The Job That Ate My Brain" by the Ramones. This song has nothing in common with that one, except that the process of making it could be described as "The Song That Ate My Brain." It took far too long to create, and as usual, there's no way of knowing if it was worth it or not. The intro is a remnant from a song written in 2022, but now “Spy Film” is complete in its entirety. Prolific musician, author, photographer and oddity.  With influences ranging from the lofi pop of Guided by Voices, the gothic melodrama of Nick Cave, the glam of Bowie and the nakedness of Iggy Pop - this is Marc Freak.  Former frontman of Freak Circus and Dead Joe.  An experiment in DIY and lofi.  The odd bum note here, the even odder bum note there.  But with art do we care?
