The Commonplace

March 28 is piano day. A brilliant holiday conjured by the incredible artist Nils Frahm, whom I've had the pleasure of seeing twice in concert.
This is my participation/observation of this wonderful instrument. I have always loved the sound of the piano. I have several tracks on my profile which utilize piano, but most have been in a calculated, slower, elegant manner.
For Piano Day I wanted to let loose my right hand and play with a little passion/indulgence in a more free flowing/ improvised manner. 
I wanted this track to be all about the piano, and my meager skills at playing and layering...
I hope some will find enjoyment :)

‘Nisi Dominus’  
This is the opening piece from Vivaldi’s Cantata of the same name (RV 608). The text – Psalm 126 – was composed for the Venetian girls’ orphanage, ‘The Pieta’, where he taught the violin. Vivaldi’s work there caused him to produce concertos in abundance. These previously unknown concertos were a major spur to the so-called post war ‘Baroque boom’ that awakened active performing and recording. 
The message of the Latin is: ‘Unless God is in the building of your house or the guarding of a city – you will have laboured in vain’.

It is the coming together of two ideas I had been playing with for a file, both inspired by the movement of snow and how it seems to float as well as fall. Recorded one night with 1 mic on my miniature Wagner upright piano using the felt pedal. (sorry for the poor recording)
