My DJ alias basically came out of nowhere--it started as an online alias, and kinda just stuck. I'm also known as DJ Bob Kemp, DJ Tuvok, DJ Skip Donahue, DJ Can I Borrow Your Phone Because My Battery's Dying, and a host of other names.

My roots in DJ'ing go back to my high-school years in Memphis, TN, and my military years with the 101st Airborne, where I learned the basics of hip-hop scratching and mixing, beatmaking, cratedigging and live performance. Like most DJ's my age, I can remember a world without MP3's and the internet, where all you had to go on to find the perfect break or beat was a magazine article or word of mouth--because of that, I have an appreciation for the vinyl-centric side of DJ culture, though I've just started to introduce digital elements to my sets.

Upon my arrival in the Pacific Northwest over ten years ago, I hosted a proto-podcast for about four or five years, worked with a number of artists and broadcasters and started working as a DJ in the Burning Man community. Around that time, I started an instrumental hip-hop project called the Last Days of Russell, which I still revisit from time to time.

Most recently, I founded a Facebook music group called Vinyleaters, and worked offline with some of the group's first members to organize a revolving crew of DJ's who operate under that name. To date, we've been selected to perform at a number of private and public functions throughout Seattle. I stepped down from management of the group late last year, but I continue to gig and do my own thing.
