Interestingly, unlike the other practice mixes I have completed for this page, this song has an official video on YouTube. I find the differences between my interpretation and this official mix interesting. I opted to make the vocals prominent in the intro with a long plate reverb thinking of Florence and the Machine, while the band mixed them low. You can still hear the bands heavier influences in the drums, guitar, and screamed backing vocals however I wanted something more modern and unique. When listening to the recording I was reminded of the powerful female led rock anthems of the 90s and 2000s, from acts like Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, and No Doubt, as well as the early hits of Britney Spears. I implemented pitch correction, reverb, and echo to capture these influences. A tremolo and echo effect was used on the guitars so they can be prominent without overshadowing the vocal.

What Have You Done To Me- Signe Jakobsen (mix by Matty)

A combination of humour and criticism is used in this song so a focus was kept on the vocals while generating a thick sound around them. The crowd vocals were fun to mix as they varied in melodicism so techniques were used to fake double vocals to bring out certain voices.

Jazz and big band are genres I have spent much time listening to and for this mix I took influence from Frank Sinatra and used panning to surround the listener in instrumentation. Corine Corine- Able Tones Big Band (mix by Matty)

The blend of rock and hip hop interested me in this song. The groove was especially important to capture though the vocal still needed to be prominent. Emotionally the song needed a lift so I used overdrive on the vocals to emphasise the emotions with a sonic shift. Ben Folds and the Red Hot Chillie peppers were major influences on the mix along with Pavement particularly in the last chorus where I distorted the signals reverbs to match the overdriven vocal.
