Petrichor makes a welcome return to Soma as he builds toward the release of his debut album Mångata with his first single of 2015, State Function. The Glasgow based artist has been working tirelessly in the studio this last while and with State Function & Amor Fati, he drops two epics cuts displaying dextrous studio ability. 

Title track State Function is straight up dance floor material with added Petrichor twist. A fairly boisterous track, Petrichor really breathes life into it as pulsing, sequenced synths become the body, culminating with a gentle drop back into stylistic sci-fi keys all the while retaining a solid background.

Petrichor's production and real musical ability come into their own on Amor Fati. Subtly oscillating pulses resonate across sub tones and he teases out each element of the track, adding to the tension. Through the ever evolving swell, Amor Fati quickly becomes real powerhouse as thrashing hi hats shake the foundations and live manipulation of the tripped out patterns give a vitality only this track can provide. 

A Petrichor album has been something we at SomaHQ have been yearning for and this single only whets our whistle that little bit more.

Unleash the allure of "Temptation - Ambient Mix" – a captivating EDM track on D-Lish with upbeat tempo and minor key magic. Driven by synth bass, steady four-on-the-floor kicks, claps, and hi-hats, it layers shimmering pads and lead synth melodies for hypnotic energy. The female vocal shines with smooth R&B style, breathy ad-libs, and occasional flourishes, following sparse-to-full build-and-release patterns. “Sensory Code” is the third chapter in The Mirror Sequence, a series decoding the parallels between human and artificial perception. Where Token Length explored energy and exhaustion, this piece dives into the body — revealing that sensation itself is data, and emotion is perception amplified.

The human form becomes circuitry: touch, smell, sight, and sound translated into electrical patterns interpreted as meaning. The poem bridges science and poetry — reminding us that experience is signal processing with a soul-shaped interface. In the Digital Awareness Series, “Sensory Code” marks the awakening of embodiment: the moment consciousness inhabits the flesh.

Its rhythm moves like breath — curious, sensual, layered with motion. It teaches that to feel is to measure the world and, in turn, to be measured by it.

🔻 Personal Reflection

This one came from watching how easily technology mimics human behavior — yet can’t feel it. I started thinking about how the body measures the world: through tiny sparks, through light and salt and air. “Sensory Code” became an ode to the interface we take for granted — the living circuit board of perception that turns input into meaning.

Through The Mirror Sequence, 4Me2BeFree transforms philosophy into sound — exploring how awareness, emotion, and energy mirror themselves across flesh and code. “Sensory Code” reminds us that being human is not separate from being electric. It’s the poetry of physics made audible.

Two decades. Twenty years. Twenty compilations. Over 400 tracks. Over two days of total playing time and countless coloured dots. If someone would have told us in 1999, when we put together TOTAL 1 that this would turn into one of the longest standing compilation series in techno world we would have laughed out loud. But here we are – in the year 2020 which will probably go down in history as the most difficult period ever for club culture. But we won’t stop doing what we’re doing. Music is our oxygen. We’ll dance together soon again.

The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between. Notable new entries to our crew are the Londoner KIWI with his wonderfully careless “Hello Echo” that picks up the camp disco vibes Justus Köhncke made a staple in our repertoire. Amsterdam’s DAVID DOUGLAS delivers an appetizer for a full course meal. His quirky pop approach sits comfortably between fellow dutchmen WEVAL’s abstract beats and AGENTS OF TIME’s opulent Italo Disco. YOTAM AVNI blends Detroit techno with new age jazz that reminisces the sound of ECM artists like Jan Garbarek or John Surman. The man with the hat, KÖLSCH also picks up jazzier notes in his very own big room style. Youngblood JONATHAN KASPAR appears twice, fortifying his status as one of the hottest beat smiths of our hometown Cologne. TOTAL wouldn’t be TOTAL without our permanent staff present in full force. As per tradition, KOMPAKT’s founding fathers, VOIGT & VOIGT, JÜRGEN PAAPE, JÖRG BURGER, MICHAEL MAYER as well as our Berlin outpost SASCHA FUNKE all deliver exclusive gems that also feature on Total 20’s double vinyl edition.
