around when wes anderson's most recent movie, the phoenician scheme, came out, i had been wanting to go to the movie theater more than ever. i have a hard time justifying movie ticket prices though, so instead of going, i wrote this song about how i wished i could have gone on a date to the phoenician scheme for the memories and the free day out.

i did end up seeing the phoenician scheme, but i saw it with my best friend and paid for my ticket. one thing that remains true from the song though: i do not remember the plot. i do remember that michael cera had his transformation cliche moment though which was iconic

this song is a little weird because it has a beautiful chord progression and picking pattern, and the lyrics are a little lackluster. that's very contrary to my usual writing patterns!! but sometimes you just need to write a song and this is definitely one of those times

i, like everyone else, had to have my sabrina carpenter phase when man's best friend came out. this is definitely the best song on the album and i don't think i'm alone in believing that. shoutout to my friend layne for playing this for me before i'd listened to the record. i listened to the song a million times and since recording this cover, i can't say I've listened since lol

ok so i have been listening to hippo campus for a long time, and when i listened to their ep "wasteland," it kind of went in one ear out the other. that is, until i heard "moonshine" again in one of my playlists two years later and fell in love with the intro. i accidentally let it play into "yippie ki yay" once and fell in love with that one even more. i get down to a lot of indie rock but you know i had to Phoebe-bridgers-ify this one. add a little remorse to this lone ranger's sob story :)

i tried to reference this song with a friend recently and that's when i realized i'd never posted it for you!! i wrote this song in 2022, right at the beginning of the time of my life when my anxiety was at its peak. i had just started pursuing music and started to deal with debilitating bouts of hypochondria. this is what i like to call an insecure jam about that :)

(i'm doing much better now. i'm finding my rhythm with this music thing and learning to expect the unexpected. i also started taking zoloft. highly recommend)

i wrote this song last summer, right after i got home from the open book tour!! i had such dreams for all the songs i was going to write about it, and then i only wrote two- whoops. but this is a fun one about the little interactions i had driving around the pacific northwest. it was so fun to see so many people and so many ways of life in such a short amount of time to realize how big, and how small, our world really is. this song is a love letter to everyone everywhere, especially the people i will never meet :)

i actually cannot believe i haven't posted a full length video of this song yet. i wrote it a little over a year ago, when i got the inspiration to write a sad love song about little john. little john is a made-up fellow on social media who transforms closet-size spaces into livable apartments. little did you know, he has a reason to transform those crevices into comfort- a reason he might not be able to save even with all of the effort he can muster.

i love being dramatic!! and i love turning silly things into heart wrenching things!!

ok so i'm warning you, this one is kinda heavy. i wrote this song back in 2022 when my anxiety was at one of its highest points in my life, right before i got medicated for it (yay). the idea was the way i emotionally self-sabotage, in two respects. first, that i'll downplay how i feel in public and even in private to try to avoid accountability for my anxiety (that's actually within my genetics so that doesn't usually work). second, that i'll entertain the feelings of hopelessness or despair because they often inspire me to write better music. i wrote this song on my bass ukulele which gave it a really cool sound and kind of inspired me to think of myself as a king in a dungeon ruling over my anxiety, but being far too merciful to it. (i couldn't get my ukulele to tune correctly so i had to guitar it this round, sorry folks.)

lately i've been picking the songs i record to post based on the ones that come up in conversation with friends- i'll mention one of my songs and then realize i have no reference to show them lol. i was talking to my producer about writing on the bass uke but i never got a good recording of this one. but alsooo i filmed this like two weeks ago when i was getting pretty anxious again so it resonated with me. luckily i'm out of the woods as of today, but if you still find yourself there at least you can know you're not alone
