Disquiet Junto Project 0601: Hard Six
The Assignment: Let a roll of the dice determine the relative prominence of various parts of a track.

I had last week's nacre_voit by Marcus Fischer loaded in Morphagene and on Thursday I set up a feedback patch to try the newly arrived Maths that completes the Microsound and Tape Music Machine. 
I was away the whole weekend so I don't have time to make a different take as I didn't take appropriate notes of the patch; basically it was a patch where Mimeophon was the feedback generator and Maths was the regulator.
 
I recorded the patch and then sliced it in 6 parts in Ableton. Rolled dices 4 times for each slice to determine order of the parts, volume, effects and tempo.
Parts: 2, 1, 4, 6, 3, 5
Effects: 5, 5, 4, 1, 6, 1
Volume: 6, 5, 6, 6, 5, 4
Tempo: 6, 5, 2, 6, 4, 6
I set up automations for effects, tempo and volume and effects. 
The effects I used are: reverse, Things Texture, Dr Phase and Tube modulator. I also experimented with different time stretch algorithms.
Tempo ranges: 90 BPM, 79.6 BPM, 68 BPM and 31.60 BPM
Volume ranges: 0 dB, -3dB, -6 dB

Maths (disquiet0601)

60bpmb • G# /  Ab

A dubby modular type composition using a Dannysound En-129 TZFM VCO as the a mid-freq synth voice, sequenced/performed by the Moog Grandmother arpeggiator. There were some filter pings from Serge Variable Q VCF as a rhythmic element.

Then I stumbled into a strangely interesting formant-y bass sound by manipulating Ableton's Warp settings and using M4L 'Envelope Midi' to shape the filter controlling it. The drums are one-hits sampled from modular and then resampled + rechopped using Twisted Wave and Ableton, and programmed with Drum Rack.

The idea was to use a lot of recycling echos and granulars on a PD piano sample, in this case Sampler, Silo, Fragments, SpaceCraft, Small Winters, Valhalla Delay.

Where The Wind Makes A Curve (disquiet0611)

For this project I recorded a few guitar picks and looped the recording. To this I added some spare synth notes. The whole thing then went into a granular reverb. I gradually raised the effect level and finally removed the input entirely.

My goal - as to the prompt - was to put the listener into a meditative state. For this reason, the track is rather long and well above my usual two minute goal. The last few minutes are pretty meditative and I recommend listening only in company of a trained meditation guide so that you don’t get lost forever. You have been warned!

Disquiet0611 - Don’t Get Lost

pitched down sample being played back repeatedly via a filter and granular delay/reverb, going into two feedback loops
- one immediately feeds output back to input of rings, which dumps its output back into the filter
- another copy runs via a high pass filter into a delay, with envelope opening at regular intervals, again back into the main signal

recording gradually hands over more emphasis to the feedback signals away from the original sample loop
