Mix 009 is dedicated to a friend I’ve known for years but only got closer during the pandemic. Nelly is a special one. Most can’t handle her raw, unfiltered and authentic self.. but that’s because she’ll hold a mirror in front of you highlighting and confronting what needs to be confronted. Her music taste is someone’s I respect, and her comments towards “bad” music are some of my favorite. 

“Ok, can you play some good music now.” - to whoever is playing/DJing. 

“What are you guys… on a journey to nowhere?” - addressing three friends on the couch chillin lol 

“I’M BORED” - probably the most used quote of hers 

Nelly is important to me cuz she’s one of the ones who confronts me when I play. I know if I have Nelly moving, then I’m playing well. She has that power, and her years of working within the industry has formed her musical taste and ear to be top notch. She’s seen and worked with a lot of DJ’s, and understands the most important job of the DJ is to read the room and the vibe - then play according to that. Whether she knows it or not, Nelly inspires me and makes me grow as a DJ. Aside from all the technical things, like mixing well and having a good track selection, there’s so many little things that need to click in order to sound great. There’s levels to this shit, and I feel as if she helps me level up ⚡️ 

I was honored to play at her birthday party this last Saturday, and I recorded this mix the day after. Quite honestly, the mixing and transition work in this mix is some of the best I’ve recorded. Making it totally Nelly-worthy. 

Happy birthday Nelly! We love you for being you, and we all recognize and acknowledge your dedication to being “nicer” and more vulnerable lol… but don’t ever change how authentic and real you are! Hope y’all enjoy this 2 and a half hour ride 🛸

Prolific throughout 2016, Sebastian Busto's three-track "Nature" EP hit the Particles catalogue in September. Now in early 2017, we return to the title track with a trio of new remixes from the Netherlands, Turkey and Greece.

Finding a strong affinity with techno after a roommate introduced him to the genre in 2010, Frezel, soon became inspired by the likes of Solee, Arjuna Schicks and Microtrauma. Beginning his commercial production journey in mid-2013 after moving to South Africa, "Under a Palm Tree" saw a debut release for the Dutch artist on Experimentalist. Continuing to find his feet, a century of releases for a host of impressive imprints including Abstract Space, Bullfinch and MNL, has marked a productive couple of years. Making his Particles debut, Frezel sees his work as "a page out of my diary…each track has a totally different atmosphere and feeling to it". Thus, his remix of "Nature" is a typically dynamic offering that revels in crystalline lead line that pierces the sonic spectrum with its evocative structure. Elements of Busto's original can be heard but a sharp deviation from the original provides Frezel's rework with a unique aural identity that bristles with dominant kick and laser-edged arpeggio sequence in the third movement.

Turkish artist, Erdi Irmak, needs no introduction to the Particles and Proton faithful. An artist with an acute ear, his rise to the underground dance industry's top table has been assured. With a penchant for combining the sonic characteristics of his home country into his work, Irmak's sound has brought success across a plethora of high-profile labels including Movement Recordings, Balkan Connection and Stripped. Particles' 2014 debut full-length album, "You're Either Guilty or Not Guilty" was a highlight as was the "Night" EP for Proton Music. Now returning to Particles for the first time in 18 months, the Erdi Irmak remix is a typically mature and intelligent reworking. Making clever use of Busto's original twinkling melodic component, Irmak's skill is to wrap "Nature" around a new rhythmic casing, replete with dominant kick and hi hat percussive cadence, while melodic refrains from the original take on a new direction with a raft of additional production from within the Erdi Irmak arsenal. The resultant piece is a dance floor pleaser that is full of emotion.

From the Greek town of Chios, Christopher FaFa has been a staple of his hometown's dance community for over two decades as an initiation into the world of vinyl in the mind-1990s saw regular DJ appearances. Running the monthly "Syncopation" radio show on Proton Radio has extended FaFa's influence and a production career that has seen several production credits for 3rd Avenue, Forward Music and LuPS, illustrates a growing sound. Furthermore, an unofficial remix of microCastle's Navar and Mononoid – "X and Y", has received over 5,500 Soundcloud plays. It is therefore with great pleasure that Particles welcomes Christopher FaFa to Particles with an impressive debut remix. An intricate house groove with subtle percussive cadence provides a liquid and evolving backdrop as melodic refrains from Busto's original filter into listener consciousness. Creating a hypnotic texture, the shimmering lead line makes its presence felt in a spine-tingling breakdown with cavernous bass and additional layers of production material. Cleverly reworking themes of the original in the third movement, FaFa's "Nature" remix marks an impressive debut.

A trio of new remixes of Sebastian Busto from Frezel, Erdi Irmak and Christopher FaFa see "Nature" very much in harmony with electronic innovation.

A young producer with both the talents and character to succeed in a demanding and cutthroat industry, Pedro Caldeira has provided a real statement of musical intent with his Pete K production soubriquet and now his "Inner Circle 2" EP for Proton Music.

From the Lisbon capital on the mouth of the River Tagus, the Portuguese producer has continually pushed his own musical boundaries to create an evolving sound that showcases genuine passion and craft. Inspired by celebrated names including, Pryda and Olander, Caldeira has been able to hit upon a formula that crosses genre boundaries with ease, opening his sound up to a diverse listener base that grows with each passing release.

A rapidly expanding portfolio, primarily within the broad church that is progressive house, has thus seen the Pete K name allied to a raft of impressive imprints, not least Intricate Records where a clutch of production credits have provided a strong platform for tracks such as "Beyond" and "Nightshift". Furthermore, November 2016's "Azimuth/Nebula" EP for industry giant, Zerothree, has cemented a growing reputation with work of genuine quality. It is thus no surprise that the Pete K sound has been regularly supported by the DJ glitterati of Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold and Jaytech.

Running the monthly "Inner Circles" show on Proton Radio has provided a refreshing medium to stage Peter K's own production credentials along with the music that stimulates him. With a mission statement that includes "no labels, no colours and no boundaries", "emotive and timeless music" are in plentiful supply. It is therefore little surprise that when Pete K came to Proton Music with his strong and vibrant, "Inner Circle" EP in June 2016, the twin-track offering provided an assured and impressive debut for the label, going on to receive remixes from GMJ and Matter and legendary Greek producer, Dousk, at the end of the year.

As 2017 now fully opens its doors, Proton Music is delighted to announce the return of Pete K and his painstakingly constructed, "Inner Circle 2" EP with its underpinnings in Greek mythology. Opening track, "Andromeda", is redolent in the technique and unique sound that has established Caldeira as an artist of real force. Driving beat and percussive hi-hat urgency provides a strong backdrop for trademark emotive melodies to shimmer across the sonic spectrum, resonating in cascading, tear drop delays, as a spine-tingling bass line progression supplies dance floor dynamism. Building effortlessly with side-chained pads and flowing lead line, the third movement sees the track reach a rousing crescendo in striking fashion.

Partner track, "Perseu" is replete with references to the Greek hero as shuffling hi-hat rhythms are paired with reverb-drenched woodblock percussion. A subtle and cavernous grooved bass line makes its presence felt as sumptuous pads provide texture and depth; melodic lines shimmer and meander across the upper frequencies. As hypnotic as Medusa's eyes, rhythmic and bass prowess captures listener attention with a body-shaking, dance floor groove that resembles Cid Inc. while filtered arpeggios and gated synth lines bring additional interest. The result is a sultry, brooding track that bristles with electricity.

Expanding his "Inner Circle", Pete K has delighted once again with music that is no longer the industry's best-kept secret.
