Editions Haighton are homespun edits of dusty curios by Hotflush Recordings’ Jack Haighton.

The first instalment of a quarterly series takes its cues from the Italian disco scene of the early ‘80s, reworking Cyber People’s ‘Void Vision’ into a Hi-NRG burner fit for the early hours at a former power plant, and JM Band’s ‘Computer Monkey’ into a loopy tool with frills.

Die sechste Katalognummer des noch jungen Labels Metanoia steht in den Startlöchern: Joshua Jesse, Midas 104, Coss und Paul Schal sind die Interpreten der EP. “Es sind vier Songs – ein eigener von Joshua sowie drei Kollaborationstracks”, so Coss, der das Label seit Januar 2015 führt. Am 8. Juni 2015 werden die vier Werke erscheinen. Dabei ist “Hommage”, der Titeltrack der Kollektion, von Joshua Jesse und Midas 104 eine klassische Tech-House-Nummer, die tanzflächenorientiert produziert wurde und mitreißende Harmonien mitbringt.

“Me and J.U.D.G.E. found great chemistry on this release and the 2 tracks were completely different experiences working on as one started by a vocal idea from J.U.D.G.E. and the other started with an instrumental from myself" says Noir of the collaboration. 

Both tracks are brilliant in their own right, with ‘Keep Up’ hitting just a bit more gently and elegantly than the title track, who’s heavier percussion and bassline deliver a more substantial punch.

It’s time to pack up the car and our daredevil is excited for the final of his many “Road Trips” across the vast continent. He throws on the booming stereo in the auto, while nodding his head to the reverberating and lengthy bass under the scattered layers of a somehow dark, but uplifting organ progression. The open road is his muse on his journey to the ocean.

The waves are rolling in on this crisp summer day in Cape Town and he feels confident. “Boom clap boom clap boom clap” is what he hears from the strong current striking against the rocks on the shoreline. He feels the persistent rhythm of the South Atlantic Ocean as he paddles out under the sinking sun. The warrior mounts the first swell perfectly and utters a subconscious, yet triumphant “Uh” as he descends from the peak. 

The sun begins to reach the horizon and the colors of the sky bounce and refract through the water, giving the scene an almost psychedelic feel. The seagulls click through the water searching for prey and they create scattered synths and sonorous cymbals from under the water. This whole day is really starting to get “Kinda Wavy.”

Deserts are home to amazing animals whose bodies and minds are built for living in hot places, where there is very little Chai to drink. Sand Cats, Camels and Cows like Timboletti and Tiefgeist, they all have special ways of staying cool, finding food and raising their songs behind the crooked hut. Also their traveling colleagues Dandara and Breger adapt in order to groove in such a rough and dry habitat.
