This is the opening to: Passions - a major work for string orchestra in five movements (with many parts to each movement). Many primal themes arise, unfold and are explored such as: qualities of passion and the elements, the beauty and sanctity of nature, the creative and destructive power of water as the rivers and seas, invocations to the dawn and the power within folk melodies, the spider and the mysterious weaving of creation, intensity and travelling into the underworld, the eagles flight and... time and the eternal.

This theme eventually unfolds (and takes flight!) from the opening to the First Passion. The arrangement of harmonies is a little song-like and allows the strong main melody to soar and intensify.

First Passion - Part 3. This was directly inspired by the Ribble Valley, on the edge of Preston in Lancashire... looking out and up river towards Ribchester...

First Passion - Hymn of the Earth

Time is something we never have enough of or have too much of... depending on our situations and perspective. Sometimes we may even step out of its flow... Is time playing with us? Do we play with time? As musicians we certainly do! A gigue is an old dance form (think: 'jig')  - one of several used in baroque music.

TIME - Gigue

This was composed initially in 2024 after the opening theme came to me... probably in the kitchen! More harmonies have been added over time as the music has been realised. It is both a stand-alone piano piece and a sketch for a larger work involving either a chamber group (solo strings and piano) or a string orchestra and piano.


Impromptu

This is quite an early composition... for a jazz trio. I tend to follow whatever music I find interesting at the time... Style, category or genre don't really come into it. A lot of music - one way or another - flies easily across boundaries rather than being defined or limited by them. May I suggest that we write whatever really interests us and not be concerned with industry standards! Let 'them' (who ever 'they' are) find us and the music!
