My family and I are moving from the house we've lived in for 27 years this coming Friday. I figured I'd say goodbye the best way I know.

This was very stream of consciousness, of-the-moment whims- largely as a result of me scrambling to get something together inbetween packing (and resting)- so it goes all over the place. The borad brief was something that sounded like the "old" me- reminiscent of my earlier work in MUSIC™ 2000- and to some extent similar hobbyist or aspiring pro musicians whom used the software back in the glory days of the TIMGUL forums, but I feel I went off base from that pretty quickly. It is a 99.9% mostly-pure MUSIC™ 2000 tune, though- outside one tiny bit of post production trickery (adding an echo that I couldn't in software without overriding a filter) and my monologue, everything was done in vanilla M2K. Another vague idea was to try and use as many of the samples in M2K's built in library that have become my "trademark" sounds + are among my favourites to use, though obviously I couldn't fit everything in; used a hell of a lot of them, though. Tying the song off with a bow is the choice of alias, which I believe only a scant few of you- maybe even solely and exclusively some of my IRL friends- will recognise; J-Vibe is the first alias I ever used for music production, as far as memory serves, besides whatever username I had on this website or that. It felt right to dust the name off for one last ride- you won't be seeing it again after this.

Oh, on the subject of the mologue, that was a last minute call; I was originally going to do another sound effect collage to fill out the backing of the section in plays over, but the urge to get some of the sentiments I'm feeling into the art directly- not just through oblique used of in-software vocal samples (though those are there, too) struck me like a thunderbolt. I considered using TTS software for it- and as insane as its going to sound, I feel like that might have better got the emotional intent across better- but again, felt just kinda right to actually used my voice. It's a performance, for sure- I wrote the "script" out, practiced it/did a few takes (the end result is cobbled together out of various takes), and I went for a specific vocal delivery for each part, but the words and the "act" do reflect my true feelings. Honestly, I'm still getting over the embarrassment factor of putting "myself" in there so directly, but hey ho, I've built my bed, I need to lie in it. 

The "script" for the monologue is as follows:

"The first time we came to this house, I fell in the garden and skinned my knee on the concrete. I remember crying, but I don't know if I did for sure. Funny thing, memories; all hazy and ephemeral. Much of the time we spent here is, now- 27 years in total, compressed into barely recognisable chunks that grow fainter with age. But the emotions felt in those moments remain crystal clear; the laughter, the tears, the fury, the fear. So much experienced together within the confines of these four walls that we now say goodbye to. It may not always have been perfect, it may not always have been ideal, but this place was our home. And I will miss it dearly."

The song- along with the rest of 103 Works #10- will be released on Bandcamp this friday, as we pull away from our soon-to-be old house for the final time.
