Amsterdam-based Red Light Radio resident Beraber delivers his ‘Midnite’ EP via Release Sustain, featuring one collaboration with Byron The Aquarius, two solo cuts and a remix from Hidden Spheres. Baris Akardere aka Beraber has been steadily gaining traction over the past few years via his regular shows on the infamous Red Light Radio on his home turf of Amsterdam, as well as releases on imprints such as Lagaffe Tales, La Freund Recordings and Cognitiva Records.  Here though we see him joining the roster of London’s Release/Sustain, home to material from the likes of Joey Anderson, Fred P, DJ Aakmael and Alton Miller amongst others.

Leading on the release is title-cut ‘Midnite’, alongside Byron The Aquarius Beraber creates a soul drenched house cut featuring loosely flowing, organic drum grooves, soft string melodies, warm Rhodes and funk-infused synth licks. Rhythm Section / Lobster Theremin artist Hidden Spheres steps up next to rework ‘Midnite’, offering a robust take on things with choppy bass hits and crunchy drums as it’s core, while stirring in the melodious elements from the original composition for hypnotic effect.

On the flip side Beraber goes solo, leading with ‘Keep It Moving’, an apt name for the dynamic, disco-tinged dance floor workout which is fueled by snaking sub lines, jazzy keys and shuffled drums. ‘Longing For’ then rounds out the package, edging into Balearic realms via an amalgamation of plucked strings, natural percussive hits and ethereal synth work.

Another release from Paris based Coquelicot Records. Frantz, member of the crew from the beginning, delivers his debut EP « Elevator Music » : 4 tracks relying on what has been his main inspirations over the years: jazz, melancholia and deep house, including an oustanding remix by artist Michael Diamond.

The EP was built around a journey in a building starting on the ‘Rooftop’ with a percusive and housy track with some saxophone samples giving a warm atmosphere to it.
Then the elevator takes us down to the ‘First Floor´, synonym of this moment when you leave the party and find yourself thinking of all the good moments that you just spent. A nostalgic and melancholic groove in this track that will take you somewhere else.
Finally, it is time to leave this building by the ‘Basement’. You take your car, your bike, your motorcycle,... in order to go home. Some smooth notes from the rhodes to give a lounge feeling to this track.

Fourth track is a remix of ‘First Floor’ from rising producer Michael Diamond. An amazing reinterpretation of the second track with subtle additions on the rythmics and the piano which gives the track a warmer vibe.

Young French musician, LB aka Labat, is about to bolster his already-impressive couple of years of music-making with a release for English house and disco label, WOLF.

The Brighton/London label has a strong following and a discography that will suit an LB aka Labat record. For this cut, called "Trimz & Thangz", the Lyon-based producer offers four dusty-sounding, sample-riddled house tracks of laudable sophistication for a guy in the nascency of what we hope will be a long and prolific career.

Our premiere is B1 on the record, Leaders For The Government, because there’s little we love more than political-house. The track starts with a vocal sample of a man somewhat grimly lamenting the prospect of a government “for the leaders, by the leaders.” But then a sliding bassline, groovy drum loop and funky guitar flurry suddenly open musical proceedings, to shift the track toward a more hopeful direction. “Bees make their honey, I make music,” the man says.

This is a simple track – the instrumentation isn’t particularly inventive, but it doesn’t need to be. As far as easy-listening goes, you won’t find a more amicable seven-minutes of music under the house/disco umbrella. 

The rest of the EP is very interesting and all the songs combined are worth the cost of any high-quality four-tracker, so look out for their release on March 9.
