"The ever-busy AUS Music continue to assert their consistency and follow up EPs from Tom Demac, Escape and Youandewan with the second offering on the label from Toronto born Bwana. 

Having kept his cards close to his chest during a 2 year hiatus from releasing music, Bwana broke the silence with his ‘Flute Dreams’ EP back in December of 2014 which offered a propitious insight into the second chapter of his anthology. Now returning with his ‘Tengo’ EP, he continues on form, reaffirming the benefits of patience and proving that he’s an artist capable of touching many bases effectively.  


Continuing to widen the gulf between his original and current sound, the A side opens up with a pacy, Trance-minded thud that becomes coloured with thick, swooning melodies before ‘Drop Mechanism’ sets impassioned strings and sweeps over a thick, booming low-end.


‘Due-West’ then sets out a snapping, forthright groove that rounds up a rich and varied EP leaving us left wondering what else Bwana has tucked up his sleeve.

Aus Music follow up a string of new signings with the return of 2 of the long-standing staples - label owner Will Saul and long term affiliate Komon. The duo most recently collaborated on a 12” for Kompakt now together they ready the ‘Eve's Seven’ EP - a deep and dreamy 3-track EP that comes with a remix from recent signing Recloose.

Bloom sets arresting riffs circling through rich textures that thicken and thin to startling effect. ‘Eve’s Seven’ follows up with dusty drum samples and bold melodies before the Brooklyn native does what he does best in offering up a typically sunny take on Komon & Will Saul’s ‘Eve's Seven’. Sweeping filters and a short, driving bass line propel a highly energetic but playful rework primed for brimful dancefloors.

Valby Rotary have already released two fine EPs and now comes a third from one of the label founders, Louf.

The blissed out two tracker continues the fine run of form that the label have been on and we have the premiere of the A-side 'If I Was'.

 It's a beautifully intricate and soft cut, one that will send any dancefloor to a loved up sanctuary.

Continuing their 26 part exploration of the Latin alphabet is German live-duo OUER. "D," in their own words, is "all about the letter D. Every record brings out a new direction, a discovery of unknown spheres while stepping out of [our] comfort zone." An accurate description as it turns out, as all three tracks found on "D" reflect an expanding vision of what the duo's music be.

The unusually named "500 Internal Server Error" begins with a hypnotic beat underneath a rising melody. Subtle changes and variations help pull the listener into a trance before being snapped back to reality around the one-minute mark. The bass drum leaves behind its heartbeat-like pattern and begins thumping reliably on the downbeat alongside a descending bassline — smartly juxtaposing the continuous upward motion of the lead synth.

"Five O Nine" is a difficult to pin down track that comes into its own after a surprise twist near the end of the track that sees previous sounds fall by the wayside as a rowdy, pulsing bass line enters the mix. Taking the energy up a notch before tying in the previous components, "Five O Nine" stands out as one of the most unique productions to escape OUER's studio.

From its opening chord sequence, its apparent "Delta" is going to be an emotional journey. And while those opening chords repeat throughout the entire arrangement, various synthesized and percussive layers work together to transform the initial mood from calming lows to soaring highs.

Their ability to efficiently combine sophisticated arrangements, engaging modulations, and soothing melodies is refreshing amongst a current overflow of sample-laden house music.  It's clear OUER is serious in their commitment to musicality and live performance, and we're excited to see the limits of what they can accomplish with such timeless, mindful offerings such as this.

‘NE1BUTU’ is Scuba’s glorious take on a thunderous classic house track, complete with piano break and an infectious bubbling bassline - it’s perfect for the summer’s dancefloors. Backed by a SCB – Scuba’s other alias – remix, he adds a minimal techno edge to the song. 

Taken from ‘Personality’, the album sweeps effortlessly across a wealth of genres within contemporary dance music, proving once again Scuba’s place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene.

For her Power Plant imprint's first release in the past 17 months, Swedish DJ-producer La Fleur starts off 2019 with her outstanding 'Aphelion' EP - a two-track release filled with conviction and spirit.

Ahead of its release, La Fleur has handed the EP's title-track over to Mixmag for a premiere. Explaining the thought process behind her latest creation, she tells us: “Aphelion is the point in the orbit when the planet is the farthest from the sun, so I wanted to give this an otherworldly vibe with the chords and the melody loop.”

Aphelion EP drops on March 15 via Power Plant.
