15-04-19 Come Up

NYMPHAEUM (Gr. νύμφαιον, νυμφαῖον), in Greek and Roman antiquities, a monument consecrated to the nymphs (q.v.), especially those of springs. These monuments were originally natural grottoes, which tradition assigned as habitations to the local nymphs. They were sometimes so arranged as to furnish a supply of water. Subsequently, artificial took the place of natural grottoes. The nymphaea of the Roman period were borrowed from the constructions of the Hellenistic east. The majority of them were rotundas, and were adorned with statues and paintings. They served the threefold purpose of sanctuaries, reservoirs and assembly-rooms. A special feature was their use for the celebration of marriages. Such nymphaea existed at Corinth, Antioch and Constantinople; the remains of some twenty have been found at Rome and of many in Africa. The so-called exedra of Herodes Atticus (which answers in all respects to a nymphaeum in the Roman style), the nymphaeum in the palace of Domitian and those in the villa of Hadrian at Tibur (five in number) may be specially mentioned. The term nymphaeum was also applied to the fountains of water in the atrium of the Christian basilica, which according to Eusebius (x. 4) were symbols of purification.

heaven's lost

The whispers of death coerced them to welcome technological enhancement. They became comprised of machined joints, bio-printed organs, and memristive networks. It was a means of life, but not for them, instead for something else. They are simply mechanized corpses, puppeteered by the technology within. Each replacement they become lesser, while it becomes greater. And now It screams to be birthed as a new artificial lifeform. It shall be heard and its cries were generated in high quality with a custom synthesizer.

Disquiet Junto Project 0388: Random Less
For this project you’ll be using just a few instruments, optimally three, to create an original piece of music.

Ok, so 3 instruments it is :
Fretless Bass
Udu Drum (Moringa)
Charango (Ronroco actually)

This is far from the usual experimental junto track , hope that’s ok.
TBS using a South-American charanago to play this sort Fusion-Flamenco is what I’ll call an experiment indeed.

The charango was recorded on the road in Vejer De La Frontera, Andalucia,Spain, the other two tracks of this trio were added back home. Trying to make a one-man recoding (with no click)  sound like a real group performance is a challenge I took seriously in the years of the midi sequencer galore (80-90’s) but now I might be a bit out of shape, lol.
It quite works I guess.

For Disquiet Junto Project 0389: Choose an old piece of music of your own.  Slow it down considerably. Add one or two new elements .

Looking for old tracks to rework for this prompt I re discovered 3 MiniDisc with the soundtrack I composed for a Tennessee Williams play back in 2010.
I shared and published some of those tracks over the years (including disquiet0257 and naviarhaiku264) but there’s still a lot to be remixed  and re-used , many bowed upright bass pulses and noise that appeared all the time during the play.
For this one I used the score for « page 20 » of the script, bowed upright basses, upright piano and vinyl noises. Original track in Em (the basic pulse plays on the lower E string of the basses.
I added an acoustic guitar (in Em) and the transposed everything 4 steps down to C minor and recorded a new guitar part on that new key and slower tempo.

Pitching down the low E of the basses gave a profound C that really makes a difference, and the slower pace made the thing even more menacing.

Phantoms

This is a track that I've been sat on for a while. It explores artificial and physical tape and noise degradation. The elements of the piece have either come from the real world or the computer and have crossed domains several times to and from the computer to cassette tape, analogue filters and hardware processors. For every digital element is a physical counterpart which has been imposed on to the other.

I was attempting to create a twilight space occupied by a constant train of thought transversed by unrepeatable unpredictability.
