In this podcast, Mayor Sue Zwahlen talks about growing up in Modesto and realizing in the 3rd grade that she wanted to be a nurse. Sue then talks about how she met her husband and her path moving around the country working as a nurse and experiencing different areas of the country, before moving back to Modesto to work at Doctor's Hospital. Sue then details her history working with different philanthropic organizations around the area and how that shaped her journey to running for the Modesto School Board, Congress, and then eventually the Mayor of Modesto where she won the first time she ran. Steven then details the journey to creating his non-profit SHARE (Stanislaus Homeless Advocacy and Resource Enterprise) and how he partners with different government programs to fill gaps in in the community with a totally volunteer based team, where all SHARE funding goes directly to the unhoused issue. Steven then talks about how effective SHARE can be with the unhoused issue due to their lack of limitations and red tape, and explains some of the inadequacies of how our government programs operate as well as some common misconceptions the public may have about our unhoused community in Modesto.
