George Apergis aka EMEX is one of the pioneers of the Hellenic Electronic Dance Scene and the owner of Modular Expansion, which has been recognized by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Athens for its actions, including vinyl releases, art videos, and publishing events. He is also a European Design Award holder in the category Music & Films Covers. George Apergis is an established artist, label manager, and event organizer, with a career spanning years in Athens and Berlin. George Apergis plays DJ sets exclusively with vinyl and has performed in numerous European cities and famous venues such as Berghain, Tresor, Renate, Suicide, Sisyphos in Berlin, as well as in London, Rome, Barcelona, Sofia, Warsaw, Moscow, Tel Aviv, and the most prestigious venues in Athens. His releases “Quelle”, “Ekhowax”, “Waxtrax” and “Retrograde” on Modular Expansion were highly successful. He has also released music on labels such as Bellboy, unGleich, Omega Audio, Audio Therapy, Sabotage, Paranoid Dancer, In Fact, and Made of Concrete alongside his close friend Alexander Kowalski. In 2014, he created the EMEX project, which has seen numerous releases on labels such as Modular Expansion, Etruria Beat, Credo, Denude, SYXT, and Konsequent. In 2015, he released “00110001” with the support of KORG, which won the Silver Award at the European Design Awards. He also has two releases, “Hyperion” and “Cluster of Time”, with his Berlin-based friends at studio416. In 2022, he released “Hi'iaka” and in 2023 “Touch Infinity”, both supported by artistic video clips and backed by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. His music has been remixed by artists such as Truncate, Zadig, Johannes Volk, NX1, Lee Holman, Brian Sanhaji, Subjected, Radial, Alexander Kowalski, SLV, Progression, Birth of Frequency, and Developer. His work has been supported by world-class artists including Chris Liebing, Marcel Dettmann, Luke Slater, Tommy Four Seven, DVS1, Rødhåd, Nina Kraviz, Ellen Allien, Jonas Kopp, Bas Mooy, Ilario Alicante, Slam, Dax J, and SNTS. Berlin based techno producer and performer Alexander Kowalski joins forces with Athenian George Apergis for a three-piece EP, with moC fixture Alek S on remix duties.

'Europa' is a smashing, hammering-everything-in-its-way kind of track, with a catchy bassline and ominous, spacious pads that keep the energy locked. 'Phoenix' is loaded with sonic details in the form of zig zagging synths, scintillating pads and sudden glitches that make for a relentless slice. On 'Cilix', the atmosphere decompresses into a stripped down, bare-bones construction. Alek S chooses to apply the remix treatment to 'Europa', turning it into a rhythmic exploration that oscillates between dub techno and glitch-heavy ambient.

George Apergis is an established techno artist with a career more than 20 years. He is also known as EMEX and he is the founder of Modular Expansion which is based in Athens & Berlin. After his highly successful releases of 'Quelle' & 'Ekhowax' on Modular Expansion, he strikes back after eight years with a solo compact release 'Waxtrax EP'. First track 'Hey Hey' is a perfect groovy club tool with an old-school voice, an instant hit! Second one is 'Dubwax', a minimal dub techno track with Detroit and Berlin influence, evolving pads, dub chords and stabs, subby basses that give the characteristic sound of George Apergis. The third track 'Ekhotrax' is a hypnotic hard kicker theme with dark atmospheres, minimal synth lines followed by trippy arpeggios. The release is closing with a remix of the classic 'Medusa', one of the early first George Apergis releases in 2005. Under his EMEX moniker George transforms 'Medusa' to a hard kicker track with rave synth lines, percussive rhythms that goes beyond a pumping futuristic version and creates a perfect rave tool.

Modular Expansion was founded by George Apergis and has run successfully, since 1998. The name “Modular Expansion” is inspired from the first analog modular synthesizers of which different parts were connected between each-other, forming an expansion.Modular Expansion is a cultural body of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and has to its credit actions with the auspices and financial support of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Athens. Actions such as vinyl releases, art videos and publishing events. He is also a European Design Award holder, Silver Award in 2016 in the category Music & Films Covers. Modular Expansion have events in a lot of European cities and famous places like Berghain, Tresor, Suicide, Sisyphos, Renate, Birgit in Berlin, also in cities like London, Rome, Barcelona, Sofia, Warsaw, Moscow, Tel Aviv and at the most prestigious places in Athens.

Modular Expansion is one of the first teams which started organizing Techno events in Athens in 1998. In the end of the 90s began to host artists from the labels such as Tresor, Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, presenting the Berlin underground music vibe and making techno popular in the Greek capital. Founder of Modular Expansion known as George Apergis performs already in 2002 at the legendary Tresor in Berlin.
