Stephan Hinz may be making his debut on Nicole Moudaber’s imprint but he’s by no means a debutant in the game. With a body of work dating back to the late 2000s featuring labels such as Watergate, Intec, Second State, Drumcode and more, it was only a matter of time before his dancefloor-tailored, mix-optimised dynamics found themselves on MOOD.

Armed with a restrained sense of funk and space, Hinz’s strong groove craft is established across three very distinct arrangements. We ignite with ‘Outreach’, a track that builds drama with relentless drums before being stripped right back for a humanised loop to flicker and falter through the rising drama. Heightened by every
strike of the succinct two-note riff, it’s guaranteed to leave the floor putty in your hands before the main breakdown.

We stride forward into the techno unknown with ‘Phantom Move’ where an ominous analogue texture takes the lead with the persistence of a foundation electro cut. Raising in velocity and sheer breadth, it teases with a bigger riff potential on every fill. Powered by a thunderdome drum set, peppered with dubby overlays, Hinz is on a real trip… And everyone is invited.

Finally we hit ‘Resonant States’. Here we find Stephan somewhere deep in warehouse mode with a dynamic that’s fat enough to justify clinical classification and a loop-driven groove that’s persistent enough to warrant an injunction. Infectious to the core and coded with the same ingredients from the sonic spice rack shared by
Berlin and Detroit, it’s a climactic closure to a pivotal chapter from Hinz. With sounds as strong as these we suspect MOOD will happily welcome him again in the near future…

It's unusual for Jannowitz Records to release an EP with only one Original Mix. But when it happens, of course, it means that there's one hell of a track that can only stand by itself. This is exactly what happened when Raul Facio sent us “Cid Cid”. It's one of these tracks that you listen to and that immediately gives you the shivers. It has this super-mega-hit-vibe to it, that a lot of labels are looking for for years and that some labels never even seem to find. But Raul Facio is going to blow your mind with his dark and dirty acid machine that is his Jannowitz debut. And not only the track is stunning. 
Young Raul himself is an outstanding artist. At only 19 years he has already releases on Dubfire's Sci-Tec and Stefano Noferini's Deeperfect, Sian's Octopus Records to show. Quite impressive, considering that he's also touring all the time, playing the clubs in his home state Texas as well as the most renowned clubs in the US - Output in Brooklyn as probably the most influential to name here. Naturally, with a portfolio like this, we couldn't leave Raul without super-producer company. Mr. Bizz is a duo that every underground techno DJ knows. 
Everyone has bought at least two or three of their tracks. They're one of Raul's fellow Sci-Tec mates, but also have released EPs on Octopus, Terminal M, Suara, Sleaze and Sven Väth's mighty Cocoon label. When Mr. Bizz agreed to do a remix for Jannowitz, we were more than stoked, we were out of our minds! Their remix is an Ode to “Cid Cid”, even darker and in pure Jannowitz style. A track that is going to sell out with every fan who follows the label buying it within seconds. It's a track that adds the perfect amount of filthy techno beats to every club set be it for the last few summer months or later this year. 
Although Raul Facio's EP only contains one Original Mix, we didn't save resources on the remixers. Next to Mr. Bizz, there's Jannowitz sweetheart George Adi on the bill. George has been with the label for three years. We remember his debut EP like it was yesterday. Back then, we were already impressed by his producing skills. But George has stepped up his game quite a bit. And if you thought his Original Mixes are class, then beware of his remix skills. It takes a true artist to preserve the essence of a track while making it one's own. George did it primarily by adding a whole new bassline to “Cid Cid”. He kept Raul's main idea but with this new layer, it seems to have opened up a whole new universe. George's mix is a peak time banger with the acid twirls and curves like the original that spiral it into the next dimension. Bonjour, Hola, Zdravstvuyte. Nǐn hǎo, Salve, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa… Wherever you 'Hale' from, this outstanding slice of techno from Japanese kindred spirits Sudo and Hito is something you're going to want to say hello to.

Sudo's return to Nicole Moudaber's MOOD since last summer's thumping 'Abstract' EP, 'Hale' sees him rolling in esteemed company as good friend and Richie Hawtin's Enter resident and MoodRAW regular, Hito, joins the fray. And what a fray it is… Tailored for the silly season ahead, 'Hale' is a super-charged roller laced with a rainbow of salutations and powerful harmonics that loop and twist in a similar immersive and addictive fashion to Underworld's gamechanging anthem 'Rez'. The producer and DJ brought together both of their creative talents and 'Hale' features the voices of various friends from all over the world celebrating the Japanese spirit for global diversity.

Remix-wise we remain in the land of the rising sun as Japanese techno OG Ken Ishii lays down two superb versions; one that makes amazing creative use of the global 'hello' montage in a real fun and funky way, and one that strips things back to the bare rhythmic bone. Finally we head to Montreal as Johnny Trika follows up his recent appearance on Hito's 'Deeperfect' collection with a much darker, pranged out twist where the bassline spirals into the ground and the vocal textures aren't all that they seem.
