Be the Calm in the Storm

This guided meditation with Mooji is offered in honour and celebration of the life of the beloved and revered Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. It was shared as part of the A Call to Awakening online retreat with Mooji taking place from 19-23 January.  

A most extraordinary spiritual teacher and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh touched and inspired millions of lives with his teachings and guidance. Known for his peaceful nature, tender compassion and bright wisdom, he is an immense force for peace and healing in the world. A true bodhisattva, he brings out the authentic radiance of Buddhism—we honour his presence and all that he imparted to the world.


Known as Thay to his followers, he began to transition at midnight, and passed away peacefully at 1.30am on January 22, 2022 at Từ Hiếu Temple in Huế, Vietnam, at the age of 95. Our love, prayers and blessings are with him and his Sangha at this profound time.  

"This body is not me; I am not caught in this body, I am life without boundaries, I have never been born and I have never died. Over there the wide ocean and the sky with many galaxies all manifests from the basis of consciousness. 

Since beginning-less time I have always been free. Birth and death are only a door through which we go in and out. Birth and death are only a game of hide-and-seek. Be at Peace Even with a Chaotic Mind

On one of his morning walks, Moojibaba meets a student who expresses she has been struggling with the busy-ness of daily life. In response Moojibaba shares this powerful exercise to stay with the sense of being.

“Give yourself the gift of 5 minutes in the morning, 5 minutes at lunch time and 5 minutes in the evening. Just sit for 5 minutes. Be aware of being. This basic ‘I-existence’ feeling and be conscious of it.

You will start to feel within these 5 minutes a slowing down of everything, and you come back to the space of being. That space of being is the most important thing in all of your life.”

MEANING OF OM NAMO NARAYANAYA MANTRA
It is a mantra of Lord Vishnu. This mantra is also known as Asthakshari Mantra and first appeared in the 'Sama Veda'.

- Cosmic Sound of 'OM' : The primordial sound vibration which encompasses all of the universe, energy and consciousness.
- NAMO : Namo is derived from sanskrit word 'nam' which means salutations or bowing down in gratitude.
- Narayanaya : This word has complex roots - Nara means water and 'Ayana' means a resting place.. It is also a symbolic representation of our inner self.


BENEFITS OF OM NAMO NARAYANAYA - 108 TIMES
Chanting this mantra leads to the experience of divine consciousness within us and a sense of deep eternal peace. As a means of humbling the ego, the Vedic tradition recommends reciting om namo narayanaya 108 times, twice a day for 40 days.

Abide In and As the Sky of Awareness

"Yes, another world of work is possible and that may sound a crazy notion if you feel trapped in some meaningless, boring, or stressful job that seems to suck the very life out of you. Work is a major source of suffering for most of the beings living on this planet and this does not have to be the case. Work can be a vehicle for something radically different, but more about that shortly.  

When you consider how much time you spend in work over a lifetime then you really should think about the quality of that time and effort. Yes, it may seem a scary thought to leave the safety and security of some boring or stressful job to step out into the unknown but consider the consequences of staying! 

Feeling stuck in some meaningless job that feels joyless or hard can take its toll physically, emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. Such work will create stress which will feel like an ongoing tension in the body as well as generating emotional and mental tension. Stress, over time, can often lead to ill-health and serious illness. Long term stress will lower our vital force energy, our vibration and this in turn will impact everything, what is possible for us to allow, accept, attract, and create in our reality...."
