“Throughout history, this expression has been used to describe various ritual group expulsions and the deduction of colonies, particularly with regard to people getting back to nature.
For example, the Italian town of Nocera was founded in the 7th Century BC by inhabitants from Camerinum, who left their ancestral homeland during a so-called Ver Sacrum.
In ancient Rome, during times of calamities such as pandemics, earthquakes, wars, or plagues, they used to devote children born in spring – from the 1st of March to the 30th of April – to the gods Jupiter and Mars. Then, when they turned 20 or 21, these children were required to leave the community to begin new settlements”

Sounding like some long lost, sacred canon, Ver Sacrum – the new album from Bruno Sanfilippo – marks something of a departure for the Barcelona-based pianist and composer. Far more orchestral in nature, there’s a spiritual, quasi-religious force to these pieces; strings swoop and soar, maudlin organs plough slowly, sorrowfully forward, while several sopranos add to the ecclesiastical air. But there’s hope and joy here too, and a childlike playfulness – playing these tensions against each other is what makes Ver Sacrum such an intense, rewarding listen. Inspired and informed by the ancient custom of ritualised expulsions of the same name, one can find the whole spectrum of humanity within these nine pieces: sorrow, loss, love, rebirth, change, hope, and the indefatigable human spirit. Oberlin - Gernholland

The Scrapbook album consists of 24 thematic sound sketches. The composition is based on superimposing different sound layers on top of each other, as in scrapbooking. The author used various samples from old new-age cassettes and vinyl records, tape loops, field recordings, various noises, guitars, and piano.

1. Good Morning. Every day is a new life.

2. Birds of Nevada. By the sound of the birds, you will know that you are not at home.

3. Light Rail. You recognize life when you see movement.

4. Cyclone. That feeling when a hurricane rages a hundred miles away, and an unsettling wind and rain hit your window.

5. Period I. Listening to the water.

6. Gesture. Body language speaks volumes about what words leave unsaid.

7. Noh. We are actors in the theatre of life, having forgotten who we truly are.

8. Magic Night. Magic is an unknown science.

9. Differentiation of Feelings. To cope with emotions, you must first understand what you feel.

10. Period II. Water is time.

11. Ceremony. Life is made up of rituals. But any ritual loses its meaning when its essence is forgotten.

12. Portrait of the Moon. The image of the Moon represents peace and tranquility.

13. The Sands of Time. Time is the most irresistible force in the universe.

14. Initiation. Only a pure devotee of the Lord can give the Mantra of liberation.

15. Period III. Water is Wisdom.

16. Fata Morgana. The most significant difference between people is how deeply they are immersed in illusions.

17. Miniature Lamps. You can be a small lamp, shining even when the Sun of Truth is hidden.

18. Fire Walk with Me. Sometimes it gets scary, but keep holding the torch of Truth.

19. Pollination. Material nature is God's smile.

20. Period IV. Water Cleanses.

21. Preparing to Leave. Without renunciation, there is no freedom.

22. Pocket Watch. Live in harmony with time.

23. Terminal. Don't get too comfortable in this world; it's just a brief stopover.

24. Good Night. Every night is a little death.

"Deep Ocean" is the culmination of several years of recording and experimentation. 
Focused on innovative sound design and immersive soundscapes, the album explores territory beyond rhythm-diving into the realms of modular synthesis and reverberation. 
Recording on the fly and resampling multiple times are my primary production techniques, enabling me to capture a raw and immediate reflection of my emotions in the moment.

The end of the year is approaching – can you feel it? It’s got that certain textural quality all of its own: the slightly quieter email box, the emptier train rides and the softer necessity in everything that you do. It’s like the world has collectively decided to just let it go, before the last day at the turn of the decade. And so I find myself in this familiar space, reviewing the year, and playing through tracks, one of which is an appropriate soundtrack to the flow of the moments. Fluctuate is a project by Cameron Brooks, who has previously appeared on these pages with a premiere of his piece “Final Solace“, from the Vicissitude EP released by Subtempo. He is now back, with an arsenal of sounds which still carry his piano forth: the slow evolving synth pads, fluttering echoes, and the sounds of the waves – all of which make up a short charming story that comes directly from the heart.
