Taking the risk to repeat myself, I am always amazed about the roots and triggers of inspiration in general and in music for me. Sometimes, it’s obvious, sometimes, it’s a mix of a thousands things. In any case, it’s not always easy to identify, but usually funny to recognize! For this song, here are some hints...

Of course, as you can guess from its name, first is the city of Montreux itself… beautifully nestled between steep Alps hills and peaceful lakeside of Lac Leman: local, exotic, relaxing and creative all together.

Then, still talking about this town, less about its landscape and more about its world famous July's Montreux Jazz Festival, it leads to the second inspiration: Deep Purple' Smoke on the Water. Yes, sure, you know the story. If not, you should!

Also, the style of this track has been greatly shaped upon the influence of fabulous @AcuteInflections: yes, I like that "velvety mix of Erykah Badu & Billie Holiday paired with the cool grooves of her 007 on bass" of those 2 New Yorkers!

And finally, regarding 18:20? I'm sure you will figure it out by yourself...

But, still, the path from the initial idea to the song you can hear now was long. The few basic tones crystallized from a small game I do play to warm up my fingers on the guitar, moving it from warming-guitar-tone-exercise to piano/contrabass based track was pretty fun, but it wasn’t enough. Something was missing and there I got help from Blaž Pavšič, who produced the final version of the track, supplementing it with awesome percussion.

Hope you will find the outcome of this collaboration as nice as I do. You better do, as I can promise it's won’t be the only one ;-)

Apparently I think too complicated in my songs. To better understand my thoughts and words, I would like to go into the story behind them.

I will never forget the look on a friend's face after we kidnapped him from the hospital many weeks after his serious traffic accident to drive a little through the night. The happiness of still being alive and regaining freedom. At the end of that ride we brought him save back to the hospital. 

This song is a fictional story about a couple in a many year relationship where the beloved wife is in the hospital with a terrible illness.
If it were based on a real story, I don't think I could sing about it in the same way.

The idea of being incurable in a hospital, monitored only by machines. The only distraction seems to be the television in the room. But everything reported there seems meaningless and unimportant in such a situation.

in my mind about this I would wish to spend some more time together alone and escape from this situation.
And how precious every second becomes that you can still spend together.
One probably wishes that this time should last for eternity.

With this background the song seems a little different than planned despite the happy melody.

These lyrics I wrote when I was in big trouble, but the words are still calm and constructive and paints a reality - mine - on a biv canvas for anyone to look. Music was played by robots after being trained by my prompts dozen of times, I try to fix smaller things and sometimes makes a new melodic structure close to the old one, there is a logic in this helpful aduio app but god he knows I'm not one who reads manuals. Recorded at One on One Recording Studio in North Hollywood, by the Instrumental Casting Orchestra, with Ruslan Biryukov (cello soloist) and Dustin McKinney (trumpet soloist).

Certain musical patterns are shared among all of humanity, transcending geographical and temporal boundaries. This selection of early spiritual songs originating from the North American continent exemplifies this remarkable unity. Whether it be the music of indigenous peoples displaced by European colonists, the religious songs adapted from folk songs of European origins, the poignant spirituals of the enslaved forcibly brought to America’s shores, or the hymns sung by impoverished rural Southerners, humanity expresses hope through their shared language of music.
This orchestral suite opens with a rendition of a Lakota lullaby titled, “Čhaŋté Wašté Hokšíla (My Kind-Hearted Boy)”. This then transitions into a New England colonial rendition of the traditional song “Wayfaring Stranger”. The song’s sentiment of constant journeying, being a stranger in a strange land yet lifting the eyes in hope toward the promise of a better home, links the stories of all who reside on this continent: European immigrants fleeing oppression, indigenous communities forced upon trails of tears, and African people enslaved against their will.
From this wayfaring song that links them all, a lone trumpet introduces the melody, “I Wade the Water to My Knees”, a traditional ring shout song that recalls the historic 1803 rebellion and subsequent mass suicide at Dunbar Creek on St. Simons Island, Georgia. The lyrics of this call-and-response shout song bring this powerful imagery to life:

I wade the water to my knees.
I’m gonna pray, gonna pray.
I wade the water to my knees.
I’m gonna pray til I die.

Lord, the water’s so cold…

I’m gonna sink and never rise…
Won’t rise now but don’t know when…

Following a brief harmonic transition, a faithful orchestration of “Wondrous Love” is presented. The harmonies are accurately reproduced from those found in the Sacred Harp tunebook of 1844. This distinctly American tradition of harmony and singing-style originated in New England during the late 18th century and was subsequently codified in the aforementioned tunebook, published in the American South.
After this rugged rendition of “Wondrous Love” comes “Idumea”. The melody was initially composed by Ananias Davisson in 1816. Subsequently, it was paired with Methodist lyrics (authored by Charles Wesley in 1753) and included in the shape-note hymnal Southern Harmony in 1835. The hymn was further incorporated into the Sacred Harp collection in 1844.
At long last, our journey culminates in a seamless fusion of the melodies from “Idumea” and the Lakota Lullaby that began this musical narrative — once more, illustrating the striking commonalities shared in the music of our diverse heritages.

Spiritual Songs of the New World (Studio Recording)

A timeless rocker cleverly written intertwining the hazards of driving with the ups and downs of love. Hank uses all 4 lanes of the interstate and them some with his steady classic rock n roll rhythm, chiming chorus guitar, and an out of nowhere guitar lead solo using open scales and his stock tremolo bar. Almost two songs in one, the climactic second half finale brings Hank's heartfelt pledge of love sung over a beautiful chord progression filled with lush string arrangement which seems to be echoing that steady clicking, humming sound of the lonesome interstate, Warning, this song stirs up emotions just below the surface of those who know love all too well.
