Next up in our Record Club guest mix series is Wyndham Earl. A friend of Bongo and a much admired music producer, vinyl-fanatic, Time Spun Records head and proprietor of King Records in St.Leonards-on-Sea. Through his Time Spun Records imprint, he has produced and released a solo instrumental LP and 2 albums by Psych Rock group Rokurokubi; and in the past written music for Khruangbin. We are big fans of his 'Epoch' album, so much so we placed it ninth in our favourite albums of 2020. It's a psychedelic trip through dusty downbeats and cosmic compositions drawing on jazz, folk, hip hop beats, prog, library music vibes, and more. A fantastic album throughout and essential stuff!!! Wyndham Earl's fascination with 60s-70s library music has brought about this new mix focussing on psychedelic rock sounds found within old Library records: Dropping Acid in the Library. Digging deep into a vast collection, it's an impeccably mixed set of tracks, all taken from original vinyl LP's from labels such-as the powerhouses of KPM, Conroy Music, Music De Wolfe as well as some more obscure labels from around the globe. Part 1 is 30 minutes of music, parts 2 and 3 to follow soon.

Phil Passera, the DJ and producer behind the Payfone output on Golf Channel has put together a timely summer selection this week. Phil tells us the mix is 100% vinyl and consists only of  Records he found in flea markets around Barcelona this Spring, and all music is from between 1977 and 1984. It's quite a ride. Londoner's should check out Payfone at Peckham Paradise, Canavans Pool Club, Peckham this Saturday from midnight onwards.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce our next guest, the man that needs no introduction, SADAR BAHAR.

Sadar Bahar jokingly describes his vinyl-buying habit as a "30-year disease, a sickness." Driven by an "unquenchable desire to create one of the best collections ever," he filled his home with records, and once his home was full, he began storing them in his mother's basement. Speaking to Rush Hour last year, Bahar admitted to owning as many as nine copies of a single record. His collection includes plenty of exceedingly rare wax—he once told CDR of a ten-year quest to find a copy of Open Soul by Tomorrow's People. There's also no shortage of other DJs playing music they first heard in a Sadar Bahar set. Theo Parrish, who describes Bahar's DJing as "sick, sick, sick," freely admits to "biting" his selections, while Dego simply calls his sets "ridiculous."

Bahar's schooling, like many Chicago DJs of his generation, came from watching Ron Hardy in action at the Music Box. "Every time you went to see Ron Hardy, you'd come away with knowledge and having had a good time," he said to CDR. Years later, he noticed that standards had slipped: many of the city's DJs were shopping at the same record stores and playing the same music. This spurred him to go the opposite route, digging harder and deeper than his contemporaries. It's an approach that has come to define him, and it feeds into Soul In The Hole, the party he runs with Lee Collins. The music played at those vinyl-only parties is a joyous blend of disco, soul and gospel. In 2012, the UK label BBE issued a Soul In The Hole compilation, a killer selection that brought Collins and Bahar's sound to the world.
