Is this a man-made rendering or is it the work of nature? The new-age enigma. Both are in some ways true.

Fluxing between hard-wired reality and digital construct, this storming new EP by Rome's Conrad Van Orton kicks off a new arc of releases on Counterchange this season.

Processing synths through an external acoustic chain, micing up guitar amps and sending the whole mix into his vintage analogue desk, the rich tonal warmth and renegade attitude of CVO's work is hard to ignore.

In collaboration with Berlin's Disc Archive, a maximum of 50 10-inch records will be shipped out carrying tracks, 'In Lontananza' and 'Bewilderment.' Each one is unique, hand-cut and numbered. A permanent engraving of a time, a place and a state of mind.

Oscar Mulero returns to Token. Titan follows up 2018's Electric Shades EP and marks the Spaniard's fourth appearance on the label. A brace of uptempo, dance-floor focused tracks in the artist's inimitable style, the EP showcases the veteran producer's knack for memorable sonic motifs and enviable studio prowess.

As ever, the music feels fresh and modern. Driving, polyrhythmic recording Carnage sets the tone for the record-high energy and off-kilter, it's a dense workout that feels as focused as it does powerfully untethered. Hypnotic follow up Spirit Train channels the best of the heads-down end of the genre with a single delayed synth that warps across its runtime, buoyed by exquisite drum programming and bound neatly by the artist's precision engineering. Title track Titan heads up the B1 and the EP shows no sign of slowing. High energy from the start, Mulero delivers an exemplary slice of peak-time acid-Techno that finds extraordinary energy in its crisp main riff. Elektra closes out the EP and focuses heavily on groove. A single reverberating lead synth sequence does the bulk of the movement, moving in and out of the sonic periphery to build and release tension, all the while propped up by the chunky, driving drums that have powered the record throughout.

Young French talent Perfo draws blood with his debut EP, "Teston" - five Birmingham-esque sonic weapons layered thick with atonal stabs, dissonant harmonies, and a brutalist approach to percussion. Perfo employs a take-no-prisoners approach to sound design - rabid and raw, yet richly detailed. This is a wartime affair dominated by pressure and tension. Resistance is futile.

Oxygeno writes a new chapter with Vertigo, moving into a more angry mood.

The EP kicks off with Thirty Against One, with a heart-wrenching bassline, distorted drums and a tense atmosphere. Nørbak pays tribute to the original, carefully using the stems and getting a powerful and direct remix.

Side A continues with Vertigo, a suffocating and anxious track, rising and becoming more and more tense as the track progresses.

On side B we find False Mirages, a hypnotic, distorted and direct track for the dancefloor. Positive Centre, with a sound design mastery, remodelled the track into heavy industrial vibes.

Finally, we also deliver a digital bonus track, Metamorphosis, ending the EP in a more atmospheric and hypnotic mood, providing a safe place for you to come down.

Oscar Mulero’s sound it’s always changing and evolving, it can be physical and muscular or deep and sci-fi or both at the same time as this record shows. On this occasion spanish titles explain the feeling of each track perfectly, Flujo Fatal is the first slice, Fatal Flow in english, a mental and deep voyage into intelligent techno: full of detail but with an energetic pulse below that activates the dance while the mind is traveling in unveiled territories. Nueva y Oscura Era is the second cut, fast and obsessive, with detailed percussive elements crossing the stereo field while continuous synth lines run over the precise beat. An ideal mix tool for the peak time hours in the dancefloor. Noches de Menta reminds us of the good old Birmingham days, intense, rugged and fast. Minimal in the components and pristine in the sound processing. Music for those who dance with closed eyes in the shadows and strobe lights. Dos Esqueletos is the last cut on vinyl, an elastic and liquid piece made of shuffled rhythms almost 90% percussive. Perfect mixing tool for those who know. On the digital release appears an extra track called Aire Silencioso, sibilant and resonant textures fly on the high part of the sound spectrum while a compact groove keeps the pace for a full physical experience. The extreme frequency treatment will cause waves in people´s minds while dancing … immersive and expansive at the same time.

Dark Distorted Signals proudly presents their 50st release: "Ordin Air - Rise Against" with a sampler vinyl, including 3 tracks -one with a slightly different mix-, and a full album with 'officialy' 10 tracks on a cd, all in one sealed package. (There is no download code included.)

The vinyl comes as a black with white splatter. That same graphical theme extends to the layout of the cd. 

This special release is of the hand of Ordin Air, who again delivers his craftsmanschip in dark melodic techno.

The full album is not a retrospective of himself, nor of the label. But all tracks combined are like a milestone, a beacon for those who need a textbook example of true dark melodic techno.
