"Why Are We Here" is an instrumental track, crafted over 12 years and serving as the first part of a six-part series. This piece tells the story of the birth of the universe and the formation of our planet Earth, leading up to the evolution of complex life forms.

Inspired by the "War of the Worlds" album and Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells," the composition blends piano, full orchestra, choir, synths, drums, and bass guitar. The piano lays a reflective foundation, while the orchestra adds depth and drama. Choirs bring a celestial touch, and synths add a modern, cosmic feel. Drums and bass guitar drive the narrative, symbolizing the passage of time and the evolution of life.

"Why Are We Here" invites listeners on a contemplative journey through the universe's beginnings and the emergence of life on Earth. This piece sets the stage for an hour-long musical exploration of existence and creation, promising a thought-provoking and immersive experience.

Born in Virginia, raised in Maryland; survivor of an alcoholic  family; graduated High School and Union Carpenters Apprenticeship; a student of Algebra, a student of Life, a  brown belt Samurai Chess Player; gave up clarinet in 2nd grade because he was too young to understand;  gave up French class 5 years later because he could not speak the language; turned down Ms. Maria Blautzig for the Sadie Hawkins Dance because she had turned  down his request earlier in the school year; walked out of typing class on day one, hell HOUR one, because he could not handle the stress of it;  walked out of Oklahoma State University because he really needed help at that point and did not know how to ask for it, so ‘tear it all down and blow it up’ seemed to be the only way to find any; experienced the deepest loneliness of his entire life to date out on that highway, with no direction anywhere.  He has worked as a ditch digger, a grass cutter, a TV Guide door to door salesman; he has been a farm worker, carpenters’ helper, apprentice, a Journeyman carpenter in Local 132, a Home Improvement contractor and a Facilities Maintenance Engineer.  He has passed up more opportunities than cars on a freight train; he has hitchhiked, hobo’ed and walked across tens of thousands of miles of America's roadways, and a few in Canada, for good measure.

By virtue of  a chance encounter one snowy January night in 1993, when he met and eventually married the revolutionary communist, aspiring novelist, multi instrumentalist soprano and as yet unheralded expert at fitting leftovers into the refrigerator, the  beguiling, and sumptuous Ms. Juliana; this union subsequently created the talented, smart, bubbly, and eye-catching Ms. Sophia, she of the musical pipes.
Mr Higgins first picked up the guitar at age 23, the harmonica at 57, and wrote his first book at age 5, or 6. It shall remain forever unpublished, as the only handwritten master of it is lost to the dustbin of history.

As a retired DOD Civil Service worker, I have time to record some. I have been recording at home sice around 1990 and some of my tracks are very old.  I‘ve had 50+ years in bands playing music of many types. I still play the club scene 3 to 4 times a month. Life is good!

Music like snow. Falling softly, bringing silence.

I make cinematic music, centered around the piano. Often melancholic, but not without hope. Calm, but not without movement. I hope it gives you something.

My path to this kind of music wasn’t straightforward.
I quit piano lessons as a kid after just two months. Years later, I got into recording and collecting sounds. I also began capturing instruments with my modest setup. But there was one problem: I couldn’t actually play one myself. So I bought a keyboard and started taking piano lessons again. From then on I couldn't let go of music.

The music that always stayed with me was film music – fascinated by how it tells stories and how it adds depth to a moment. Over time, my own pieces became more narrative, more atmospheric. Until they became what I share with you today.
