ISLAK KÖPEK

Islak Köpek was a free-improvisation ensemble based in Istanbul, Turkey. It was active between 2005 - 2013 and managed to place Free Improvisation on the Turkish experimental music chart. It played in the Akbank Jazz Festival twice (2006 and 2012) and released two physical and one digital album in 2006, 2009 and 2011. The band got together for two concerts in Istanbul and Berlin to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

History
Islak Köpek’s original lineup of Korhan Erel, Şevket Akıncı, Volkan Terzioğlu, and Volkan Ergen (percussion) gave their first performance in May 2005.  Following a series of performances at Galataperform (www.galataperform.com) and Jazz Cafe, Dirk Stromberg (electric guitar) and Robert Reigle (tenor saxophone) joined the band in January 2006.  Volkan Ergen left in the summer of 2006 to pursue other musical interests.  The five-piece band played at the Transit Improvisation Days with Le Quan Ninh and dancer Kirstie Simpson in June 2006, followed by a sold-out concert at the Akbank Jazz Festival in September 2006.  Dirk Stromberg left the band in 2007 to teach in Vietnam.  The remaining four members continued playing and recording, sometimes with guest musicians such as Richard Nunns, Christian Asplund, and Olivier Germain-Noureux.  Notable performances include participation in the Body-Process festival A.M.B.E.R. (http://www.a-m-b-e-r.net/) and the second Transit Festival.  Gökcen Dilek Acay (violin) joined the band in 2008 and remained until the end of March 2009.  Cellist and composer Kevin Davis joined Islak Köpek in February 2009 until his return to the US in July 2010.  Cellist Gülşah Erol and guitarist Giray Gürkal joined the band in January 2011.  Cellist Gülşah Erol played in Islak Köpek from the beginning of 2011 until the early months of 2014.

Islak Köpek continues to perform with local and international musicians, dancers, and visual artists in venues such as Gitar Cafe (www.gitarcafe.com), Babylon, and Borusan Music House.  Since May 2006, its members have produced a program about free improvisation and free jazz, called “The Other Jazz,” which is broadcast on Açık Radyo (www.acikradyo.com.tr) every Sunday from 17:00—18:00.  Their guests in the studio have included Christian Asplund, Richard Nunns, Chris Cutler, Jürg Solothurnmann, Senol Küçükyildirim, and Hoca Nasreddin.

The band members participate in many side projects. They have produced solo albums and performed in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States.

Gülşah Erol works actively as a composer/performer in different styles of Various Genres. She is one of the most known Improvisation musician.

David Philips is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from the UK. His work as a solo artist and session guitar player has taken him around the world playing venues and festivals such as Montreaux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Marciac Jazz Festival (France) Delhi Jazz Festival (India), Woodford Folk Festival (Australia), Blue Balls Festival (Switzerland), Mare De Agosto Festival (Azores Islands), plus studio work and live shows in the U.S. and South East Asia. He has also written and recorded productions for companies such as MTV, VH1, Audi and Volkswagon and his Cigar Box Guitar driven song "What Am I?" was used by Redbull, bringing a little more worldwide attention to his music. In 2017 his song "Hummingbird" was used on History Channel's navy seals based drama "Six".
Philips self released his debut album “Heal Yourself Alone” in 2010 and was quickly selected as Album Of The Week by Robert Elms at BBC Radio London. It was also at #34 in the top 100 roots/country albums of 2011, compiled by Roots Music Report in the US. After a short tour of Holland and Belgium Philips signed with Black and Tan Records in Holland and released his next 4 albums with the Dutch label. Philips is known for his D.I.Y approach in the studio, writing, recording and producing all his albums himself as well as playing almost all instruments and tracking all vocals. The Rooftop Recordings (2011) was recorded in his rooftop apartment in Barcelona, Spain while December Wine (The 4 Track Tapes) (2013) is a selection of demos recorded using a Tascam 4 track cassette machine. 2015's "If I Had Wings" saw David expand as a composer and producer by including touches of electronica, psychedelia and jazz alongside his usual acoustic and voice approach.
"The Rooftop Recordings 2" (2016) Philips returned to his rooftop apartment in Barcelona to record, getting back to basics with just guitar and voice captured with 2 mics and all doors and windows wide open, a real "fly on the wall" experience. Philips is also a talented painter/draughtsman and his drawings and paintings of birds have provided the artwork for his last 2 releases, giving a good reason to own a CD copy. 
Straight after putting out RTR2 David locked himself in his studio for the Winter months and set to work on songs based around a full band sound and electric guitar. The result is "Winter" an 8 song digital album released in April 2017. Drawing from Blues Rock and Soul for inspiration, Winter is David's most Rock oriented record to date.
In 2017 Philip's song "Hummingbird" was used on History Channel's war drama "Six" and his song Mary was chosen for airplay by BBC Introducing (East Midlands) Radio show.

From April 2017 to April 2018 David went to work on his most recent album "Get Along", released May 2018 on Black and Tan Records the record sees David continue with his D.I.Y. approach to music making with all recording, writing, production, mastering by Philips himself as well as playing all instruments, writing all songs and providing the hand drawn artwork.
David Philips has toured Europe extensively over the past 7 years and continues to showcase his world class guitar playing and carefully crafted songs and stories to a growing audience.

May 2010 multi-flutist Mark Alban Lotz had the opportunity to record and perform with some of the great exponents of the improvising scene in Istanbul.

Out of this came two albums: CD 'istanbul improv sessions may 4'th' features recordings with the improvising ensemble ıslak köpek. This album is released on Evil Rabbit Records september 2011.

Cem Adiyaman (b. 1981 in Ankara, Turkey) is a Multi-instrumentalist Turkish composer for film soundtracks and contemporary music.

Never having a formal music education, while studying civil engineering in Ankara and Design in New York, he always tried to produce his own material and further investigate different genres of music. Developing a big interest in jazz and upright bass at a young age he took private lessons for a year without having an instrument and after getting one he played standards and avande-guard jazz in clubs and hotels around Ankara. He wrote jingles for popular tv shows, produced tracks for singers and expanded into more electronic music genres.

After moving to New York in 2003, he started working with aspiring film makers and started providing original film music for their short and feature length movies. Being interested in Turkish Classical Music, he immersed himself in traditional Turkish and gypsy musics as well as contemporary New York music scene.

Hannok is the name of the passion that has came from existence, the fear of years and the courage that followed, the love for the alphabet of the most embodied sounds. İbrahim Özmen appears himself with this first single project of ambient and electronic sounds. İbrahim started his classical music and piano education at the age of 5 and made his first compositions during his childhood. Throughout his education, he focused exclusively on piano. He studied music therapy at university and continued his career with ballet, modern dance musics and soundtracks. In the following years, his piano improvisation and ambient passion began to turn into a cinematic music journey that tells different stories. In addition to Hannok, İbrahim continues to work with another group project, Giant Keep Falling.

Mógil is an Iceland/Belgium-based band whose music blends folk, Jazz, classical, 
minimal and post-rock into a universe that is completely their own. The lyrics are inspired by Icelandic folklore and current events and tell the emotional stories of humans and mermen alike.

The world of Mógil is atmospheric, intimate and mysterious. It is always warm, be it from the midnight sun in summertime or the blaze of a fireplace in wintertime. The tension between the crystal-clear soprano and the very contemporary accompaniment together make for a timeless sound that knows no borders. 

Mógil is vocalist Heiða Árnadóttir, Hilmar Jensson on guitar, Joachim Badenhorst on clarinet, Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir on viola and Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson on trumpet.

Mógil has performed at Iceland Airwaves, Reykjavík Jazz Festival and WOMEX World Festival and done several tours of Northern Europe. They released Ró in 2008, followed by Í stillunni hljómarin 2011 and Korriró 2015. Their music has been called “exquisite from beginning to end” (Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery, NYC) and proclaimed as “music that touches the soul” (The Silent Ballet, NYC).
