Twin System present “Victim Of The System”, a 28-track compilation with all profits donated to Brixton Soup Kitchen. Functional heaters alongside malfunctioning oddities for a good cause.

Brixton Soup Kitchen offers support to the homeless and in need, and relies heavily on donations to sustain their work. They provide invaluable relief to a community hugely impacted by the virus, as well as a homeless population forced back onto the streets since the temporary housing provided came to an end. As normality resumes, the chance of another wave of cases and another inadequate response from our government grows. This along with the huge number of people already suffering from the economic impact of the virus means organisations like B.S.K. are now more important than ever.

@diletamtl: This mix is an experiment in dynamics between various ultramodern 'cool vibe' corkers and house stompers, with some UKG and 100-something drummy chugging thrown in for good measure. When assembling it, I tried to focus on two things. First, rhythm juggling and layering, often changing between diagonal lift and forward propulsion, and second, toying with the impression of free fall through the use of ascending and descending high-pitched synths and abrupt drum pattern changes. There's also a fair share of cheeky fun inside. Thanks so much for listening!

crescendoll is a Gamilaraay woman and Eora based DJ. Selected for FBi Dance Class’s 2020 program, she flirts with juke, jersey, footwork, hard drum, UK bass, garage and acid and is an appreciator of all things club. On the mix: This is a much more restrained and synth-driven mix than the usually maximalist and drum focused approach I’ve taken previously. Keep an ear out for the SOPHIE pianocore remix, it’s a real heavy hitter.

Diskotopia is proud to present the self-titled EP from Sense of Sense, the debut collaborative project of label founders A Taut Line and BD1982. Although the two artists have been running Diskotopia for 10 years now, this is the first time they have properly written and produced music together, making this release even more exciting. This first EP traverses genres in similar ways to the solo work of both Tokyo-based producers, but here the clashes of ideas and approaches create a unique and strikingly erratic sound. There is a thematic thread of hedonistic psychedelia explored through these 6 tracks, in addition to a clear disregard for conformity to a given trend that exemplifies what Diskotopia has been about as a label since 2010. 

The release opens with the murky fourth-world tribalism-funk of Equatoria, a fractured broken-beat percussion excursion lined with intoxicating gamelan rhythms and vaporous flute passages. Northern Jewelled imbues a techno-arachnidan DNA, winding disparate elements of percussion, Central-Europe string melodies, and dub-infused circuitry into a network of different textures across a motorik base. Body Formations fuses shades of Latin freestyle, filter house, and new jack swing into a fractal dance-routine workout. Divination Call is a skewed hack of asymmetric hip hop; a disembodied loop is micro-surgically interwoven between the threads of head-rush pads and bamboo breaths, served over a deviant batch of juddering drums and numbing bass. The spoken-word gothic aria Vorimba hovers and unfolds synthetically on itself in an operatic Andes-expedition fashion before the circle is closed with the heads-down thump n’ crush of Low Earth’s seismically expansive avant-rock space-disco freakout. Disjointed, hallucinatory, and perfect for bedsit-bound flashbacks of throwing crooked shapes on empty dancefloors.

Capturing the spirit of the Steel City he grew up in, Manchester-based artist 96 Back is up next in our series. 

Now based in Manchester, 96 Back has been surrounded by Bleep legends his whole life so it’s no surprise that he has become one of the most exciting producers in the UK. At 18 years old he released his first EP on CPU Records and was quickly followed by his debut DJ set at the Boiler Room label showcase. In 2019, he put out his debut album ‘Excitable, Girl’ which was highly acclaimed across the board, it was one of my favourite LPs to have been released that year, and made him a one to watch. Following releases on Hypercolour, Happy Skull and Fever AM, the UK’s underground gem returns with his first release for local label Local Action ‘Sugilite’ - out now.

NYC's Sorry Records has had an epic year with stand-alone releases from Escaflowne, SPACEGH0ST, DJ Wawa, C Powers, Darian, Matt FX, Tony G, and Malik da Freek among others. Not to mention the guest appearances from the likes of Ma Sha Ru, Amal, Drummy, Huey Mnemonic, Ali Berger, Kush Jones, and DJ Swisha. Despite everything going on around them, they’ve continued to smash it each release, beaming through the dust, and now round off 2020 with a bouncy, uplifting deep house record from Scottish NYC-based DJ, producer and saxophonist Panooc. Going full circle on this one, one of the founders of Sorry Records met Panooc on the dancefloor a year ago whilst Fatherhood was DJing and here we are, a year later releasing ‘Softie’ EP featuring a remix from none other than Fatherhood themselves. 

Panooc has been a lifelong devotee to the global queer dance underground, putting out records for the better part of a decade on a diverse selection of labels such as New York house music institutions King Street Sounds and Nite Grooves, dance powerhouse Ultra Records (Sony), and underground DIY platforms such as QRTR’s Wavcave. They’re currently a resident of gender non-comforting, women & allies DJ collective and party XOXA and have played at globally renowned institutions Tresor, Rye Wax, Good Room, and Dalston Superstore.

Slated for release on the 18th December, the lead track ‘Chem Trails’ draws from a jacking, old school sound, destined for peak time dance floor shutter moments. The ever so playful artwork for ‘Softie’ encapsulates the intimate, colourful, and joyous feeling of the EP perfectly.
