I started by trying to find some source material; off to freesound.org. I liked stormpetrel's https://www.freesound.org/people/stormpetrel/sounds/173095/ (The sound of the Iceberg) but my computer crashed around halfway way through downloading the flac. Good enough.

Did the usual Junto pre-processing - noise reduction in Audacity to bring out some transients, Paulstretch to extract some tonal material. I played with some promising loops in reaper, vocoding the tonal material against some ice noise. That was then fed through lipredemuco, with the reconstruction lattice filter's coefficients rotated to make some synthetic whining windy sounds.

Then for no particular reason - because I really had planned to make the entire piece from the one sound sourced from freesound - I opened up Geist and loaded in some stock drum hits and noodled around with that for a bit. Alchemy and a self-resonant Strobe both use the original iceberg source material, but having already corrupted the original ambient piece, it was hard to resist playing (albeit pretty conservatively) with Oddity. 

As is often the case, it didn't work out as I expected and I feel I'd like to develop it more, but there will not be the time and now is probably a good time to wrap it up. That said, I think I've spent more time trying (pretty unsuccessfully) to name the thing than actually writing it. In the end, the rather unremarkable "burrowing into ice" is I guess reference to Junji Ito's Enigma of the Amigara Fault wherein people are inexorably drawn to a newly revealed geological formation with human shaped holes, find the one that fits, crawl into it, and die.
