Partners in crime against daylight, @tushen_rai, and @corneliusdoctor, spin the globe and throw darts at it, picking destinations to LAYER in their new mix for the WPD series. Remembering them by their 2018 collab on ""Lights of Khonvoum"" EP, Tom Tom Disco material, and notorious sets in Europe's Rex Club or Zur wilden Renate, @hardfist founders dig all the way to the center of the world, where gigantic plants and long-forgotten animals dwell and cross their flutes to charm the beasts. LAYER #260 | Tushen Raï & Cornelius Doctor

Imagine, in a factory, all machines and computers come to life at night and unleash their own music. Marching around with military precision, they draw inspiration from the dirtiest corners of the factory. They are creating snares like a slicer, belt-driven arps, bass drums high on fresh oil and synths full of emotions, which cut you deeper than your first broken heart. These sounds are telling the story of their monotonous march.

You’re digging this… For real? We have to disappoint you… Marching Machines is a Belgian duo with a musical history that spans more than two decades. Their love for electronic machine manipulation is key and have their output on labels like Correspondant, Rotten City Files, Opilec Music, Why People Dance, Nein and Wrong Era.

One operator in service is Dimitri Andreas, a producer whose chronicles go back to the early 2000s, with a wide range of works that vary from leftfield electronica and Belgian pop to tailor-made music for contemporary ballet performances. He speaks Wooky fluently and he’s a master in soap carving. You’ll find his creations and time-lapse videos on social media. Being a nerd, he’s inscrutable. The rumour goes that he once sold a synth to fund a tree hugger workshop on the island state of Yap.

The other operator is Ghent-based Spacid, a well-known DJ/promoter who has been active in Belgium’s underground scene for more than two decades. He is the former boss of Radius records and re-released Italo Disco in the early millennium. Next to his love for music, Spacid also loves green beans and koala bears. He’s feeling judge-y when he finds the time to dust off his vinyl stock and he is an avid collector of in-flight sick bags. In 2014, he won the prestigious Tuvaluan Lacemaking championship and is also an amateur surgeon. Isn’t that awesome?

Together they do their stubborn thing. In a strange and inspiring way, they complement each other in their quest for innovation. They’re exploring the boundaries of Electro, Dark Disco, Italo and EBM, topped with a Belgian old skool/new beat vibe.

Nianova and Danny Domingo are colourful, loud, and put a smile on everyone’s face with their warm charisma. You could briefly think that the two are from the future but leased the ’80s for their style. Since 2018, their Indie Dance and Italo Disco DJ sets bring a lot of fun and a good mood to the dance floors. The symbiosis between ’80s Synths and modern good-feel or driving basslines always fascinated them and with the start of the pandemic they combined their skills. Nianova as a musician and Danny as an electronic music DJ for over a decade. Connected through the love for the sound of the ’80s they started their first productions. After a year of experimenting and producing, they released their first tracks on the Hamburg-based label Verflixt Music in 2021 and hit the Beatport Top 10 Indie Dance Album Charts with their “Sphärenharmonie” EP.

The history of the DJ & producer duo and couple Local Suicide stretches back over a decade to the year 2009. Since meeting, Munich-born Brax Moody and Thessaloniki native Vamparela have collaborated together on various projects, all culminating in the conception of Local Suicide in Berlin. Local Suicide’s distinctive sound, is an energetic fusion of new wave, slow techno, post disco and acid house that they themselves have given the name technodisco, while Beatport declared them as one of the key figures in the uprising dark disco scene.
Their DJ career has carried them to all four corners of the world, whipping crowds into a frenzy at Lollapalooza, Melt!, ADE, Off Sonar, Festival Forte, Berlin Festival and almost every club the German capital has to offer. Their live cuts have been honed to perfection with years of shows alongside the very best in the scene, even being invited by New Order to warm up for their live performance. This hectic schedule has taken them across Europe, Asia, North Africa, South America and the United States. As the faces behind some of the most prolific parties Berlin has to offer, these two were the driving forces of the infamous T.O.F.U (Too Old For Understatement) parties, which are just one of the many marks that they have left on the Berlin underground scene.

Physically and creatively Shubostar loves to travel. The South Korean born DJ and producer has immersed herself in the bustling music scenes of Thailand and Mexico and now she's setting up camp in Berlin, but through her music it's outer space that she loves to explore.

Her DJ sets and productions see her navigate celestial electronics, from disco and synth to techno and house, which she terms as cosmic disco. As well as releasing music via Anomalies Anonymes and Ano Ano, on top of remixes for labels like Roam Recordings and Eskimo, she captains uju Records which is a platform for her own music, brought to life by Korean painter Daryung kim's artwork.

Recorded at her international space station, she sees us into the weekend with a mix primed and ready for a Friday night that showcases her intergalactic tastes...

ZOMBIES IN MIAMI is a project created by Canibal & Jenouise and despite the name they are not crawling around Miami, but shining their light from Mexico. The couple have become one of the most prominent members of Mexico‘s vital electronic scene over the last decade.
