My Favorite Robot very much prizes quality over quantity, and so it is that they offer up their carefully chosen autumn vinyl release, namely another landmark EP from key label artist Eric Volta. Fleshing out his killer originals are remixes from Swiss star Deetron and Volta as Voltaeric.

Volta is a synth whizz who crafts cinematic, epic, emotive music for this label as well as No.19 Music. He has emerged as a real star in the last year or so and is able to marry dance floor clout with a truly cerebral sense of musical storytelling.

It’s that kind of musical narrative that he offers up here to great effect with an EP which starts off with a scene-setting recording of some frightened breathing and a torturous synth line that grows unbearably loud then dissolves to a post apocalyptic hum. It’s unsettling but really gets your attention before ‘Until I Dissolve’ drops, an absorbing brew of searching sci-fi synths, wood block hits and thick melodic gurgles. A spoken word vocal muses up top and the result is a truly dark and futuristic groove.

‘Heartbeat II: Cry’ is two minutes of excellently evocative sound design, pained synth lines and cosmic energy that really makes this EP feel like a story, then we have ‘Deliquesce’, a Vangelis like prog track rich with reflective chords and rippling melodies that really tugs at the heartstrings.

Deetron—a real house and techno specialist who has proven himself in both EP and LP format over the years—remixes this one into a more slow burning but all consuming main room track with bold drones and glassy melodies. He also offers up a beatless dub that is equally engaging as it grows ever more manic. Finally Volta remixes his own ‘Until I Dissolve’ into a whacked out, synth laden techno cut that is brilliantly dark and weird.

Few EPs feel like as fully realised a sound world as this. Even more impressive is that Volta never loses sight of a dance floor groove whilst telling his compelling synth based stories.

Dieses Set bedeutet mir unfassbar viel. Es hat mich meine ganze Kraft gekostet, die letzte Kraft, die noch in mir steckt. 

Die letzten Wochen waren die schlimmsten meines Lebens. Es gibt kein einziges Wort, was dieses Gefühl in einem ausdrücken kann, wenn man einen Menschen verliert. Es gibt kein Wort dafür, weil es einfach nur eine eiskalte Leere ist. Die Sehnsucht nach diesem Menschen zerfrisst einen. Gedanken, Vorwürfe und Fragen, auf die es nicht eine einzige Antwort gibt, zerstören deinen Kopf. Deinem Herzen fehlt ein Stück und es kann nie wieder repariert werden.

Dieses Set ist für meinen kleinen geliebten Bruder, der von uns gegangen ist. 

Es soll kein Abschiedsset werden, sondern eine Aufforderung an alle Engel, mit uns zu tanzen und bei uns zu sein. All die, die einen Menschen verloren haben, können sich in den Melodien verlieren, sich fallen lassen, sich in Erinnerungen an diesen Menschen wiederfinden und mit ihm tanzen, bis in die Ewigkeit. Lasst uns Augenblicke aufleben lassen, die uns keiner nehmen kann. Lasst uns den Himmel zu uns holen, die Wolken streicheln und die Sterne küssen. 

Es gibt leider nichts auf der Welt, was ihn uns zurückbringt. Was uns bleibt ist die Erinnerung, die unvergessliche gemeinsame Zeit und die Gewissheit, dass unser Engel immer bei uns ist. Alles, was wir tun können, ist ihn festzuhalten und für ihn weiterzuleben. 

Das Set soll uns ein kleines Stück Leben zurückbringen, uns ein wenig Kraft und Hoffnung schenken. Es ist auch ein kleines Geschenk für meine Familie. Wir haben eine so große Liebe entwickelt, ein undurchdringbares Band umschließt uns nun. Wir werden uns für immer festhalten, unsere Herzen sind vereint. Ich wünsche mir, dass jeder einzelne von uns mit diesem Set unseren Engel aufleben lassen wird. Für eine kurze Zeit den Schmerz betäuben und uns freuen, ihn gehabt zu haben.

My Favorite Robot - Glass To The End



Trend setting Canadian label My Favorite Robot is all ready to offer up some scorching
summer sounds in the form of their tidy three track sampler EP. It features three hot artists
and a trio of cuts that fit in perfectly with their singular MO.

Swiss outfit Animal Trainer, of labels like Hive Audio and Still Vor Talent and others, go
first. Their excellent ‘Aeron’ track is their first ever on this label and is a walloping great
house cut with huge rubber kicks, spin tingling melodies and the sort of oversized bassline
that will thoroughly destroy dance floors this summer. It is a patient, cosmic tinged track
with a subtle sense of tension and release that really sweeps you up.

Next up is Italian producer and DJ, Slok, who has been churning out beats for almost
twenty years. In that time he has amassed credits on plenty of top labels including One
Records, Circle Music and of course MFRR and has previously enlisted the MFR
production outfit to provide vocals on his music. Here we find him in a doleful deep house
mood with sombre chords laid over slick beats on ‘Dreamachine’. It is a spaced out and
hypnotic track that will allow for lots of introspective moments.

Finally, Valencia talent Darlyn Vlys is a prolific producer who has been active for five years
but has already released more than ten EPs on all sorts of labels like Avotre, Terminal M
and Suara. His ‘Butterfly’ track is eerie and haunted, with wide open spaces sucking you
in. Thin pads, starry melodies and groaning bass all make for epic listening as you are
trapped in the middle of it all and this one is perfect for dead of the night moments of pure
emotion.

This summer sampler offers up a hat trick of class club hits that remind us just why My
Favourite Robot is one of the most talked about labels of the day.

After serving up an excellent album on the label, Jori Hulkkonen’s ‘Oh But I Am’ now gets remixed by a crack team of expert beatmakers as selected by the on point My Favorite Robot label bosses.

Jori’s original album was full of moving melodies and succulent synth layers and was perfect to be picked apart and reimagined for different dance floors. First to do so are Musumeci & Lehar who tackle ‘Waiting Is All We Have.’ The pair has worked together before on cuts for labels like Connoisseur and have a weekly show on Ibiza Global Radio. Their brain soothing track is a patient, magically melodic one with low swaying bass, tooting arps and dreamy vocals that melt right into the background in expert fashion.

French pair Villanova tackle ‘Four Step Program’ with typical élan, as you would expect of the Cocoon, Loveyeah and MFRR affiliated producers. In their hands it is a synthetic bit of delicate minimal techno with a feathery light percussive scattering. Echoing vocals add soul to the deep space drones and this one is sure to send people wild in the dead of night in some tiny back room. Mexicans Balcazar & Sordo (hotly tipped by Maceo Plex, who also releases their music) then link to remix ‘Quick to Judge, Slow to Execute’ into a gorgeously
fat deep house roller with hypnotic synths meandering over the perfectly drum line. Holding you in suspense throughout, it is another cultured late night club cut that is full of rich sound
design and original ideas.

Camea, the long time minimal techno goddess and label boss at Clink who also releases on BPitch Control, gets dark and abstract on her circling and spookily desolate remix of ‘It’s Taken Too Long’. A final and excellent hurrah is from UK act and Eskimo Twins member Heretic, who has been on an atmospheric acid tip when working solo in the last few years.
His interpretation of ‘Songs of the Eastern World’ is a laid back jaunt through the galaxies with cosmic patterns and twinkling melodies all making for an ambient opening before a cold
boom-bap and slow machine gun bassline add real drive.

This is a fantastic package that covers many different bases with real class from all concerned.

The 38th release on Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital comes from the mind of Gonzalo Luque, better known as Soulwerk.  Based in Madrid, this young artist has already worked with major international labels such as Hope Recordings, Saved, Cr2, Great Stuff, and Stereo Productions, among many others.  'Stuck In My Mind' immediately caught our attention with its rolling bass groove, spacey chords, and hypnotic vocals.  We knew a talented artist like Soulwerk required equally talented remixers, so rounding out the package is an upbeat and bouncier remix provided by Australian producer Jamie Stevens, followed by a deeper rendition from Tel Aviv duo Jos & Eli.

Founding member of the celebrated, award-winning electronica act Infusion, Jamie Stevens has built an impressive solo career with releases on Bedrock, microCastle, and Lost & Found.  His recent collaboration with John Digweed and Nick Muir resulted in an epic techno production for the 'VS' album, while his glorious 'The Wonder of You' EP caused a massive stir hitting number 1 on Beatport's Tech House chart.  The instantly recognizable remixes created for the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Booka Shade, and Cid Inc have been no stranger to praise and support from the biggest names in the industry.

Cultured Canadian label My Favorite Robot has got time for just one more release this year, but it is a special one indeed. Behind it is Slow Porn, a talented French duo made up of La Dame Noir’s artistic director Phred Noir and 
producer (as well as Meant Records label boss) Remain. Both of these musical minds have unquestionably great inspirations that look to the worlds of disco, electro, rock, industrial, techno, and beyond, for their influences. They have been doing so since 2009 and pride themselves on libidinous, dirty grooves, as this EP proves. Things kick off with ‘Silver and Lust’, a wonderfully slo motion trip through deep and colourful disco. Lazy synths are stretched between rubbery drums as melodic fireworks rain down from above and steamy vocals bring a great sense of intimacy. For their next trick, the skilful studio partners remix Yosoy’s ‘Soldier’ to perfection. In doing so they make it into a low slung, sleazy and dark chugger with Depeche Mode style vocals and a broody sense of atmosphere that really sucks you in. The penultimate track sees Slow Porn serve up a second compelling original, ‘Third Thrill’, which is mechanical and kosmiche, suspensory and expansive. It is filled with analogue lines and pixel thin melodies that really get your senses tingling. The last cut is another remix, this time of Color War’s ‘Shapeshifting’, it’s an ethereal affair with frazzled synth spaceships circling post-punk drums. Full of wide open spaces that are filled with effortlessly cool female vocals, it’s a menacing and melancholic closer. This is a superb EP that showcases the supreme aural aesthetics of Slow Porn to great effect.
