Drawing inspiration from the 80's subculture, the moody allure of the Neue Deutsche Welle, the seminal post-punk sounds of Britain, decadentist literature and experimental electronics, among others, Contes Cruels crafts their sound, characterized by minimalist compositions, vintage gear and evocative, cold lyrics. 

Venturing into the realms of hauntology, exploring the pervasive sense in which contemporary culture is haunted by the "lost futures" of modernity—those futures that never materialized or were eclipsed by the tides of postmodernity—the duo embodies this spectral presence in their debut EP, Séance.

I'm happy to announce for this fall on Unknown Pleasures Records the limited edition CD release of a superb retrospective compilation of my favorite French Dark Folk duo: SWESOR BHRATER - brilliant project from Toulouse which was founded in 2014 by Victor-Yann Gand (brother of Alexandre Gand of Syndicat Électronique & Invasion Planète Recordings with whom he already played under the name Bruta Non Calculant) generally classified as Neo-Folk/Dark Psychedelic by critics and faithfully supported by a solid fan base in Europe. Previously published only in very rare and sold out vinyl editions, I have chosen to offer on remastered Compact Disc their most beautiful ritualistic & pagan compositions deeply inspired by a mysticism of the ancient gods. This remarkable project deserved to come out of the shadows of the dark woods to spread the light of their own creativity to an amazed world.
