The Butterfly

        “Aequitus Solaria”, meaning literally “Symmetry of The Sun”, refers to the cyclical rising and setting of the sun on a day-to-day basis. Just as the sun reaches it’s highest point in the sky at the middle of a day, the point of highest spectral density in this piece is placed precisely in the middle of its four-and-a-half-minute course. Listen as this textural composition “rises” from the bottom of the frequency spectrum with its opening thoughts and fades into the horizon with its final remarks.
	This piece is unique in that each and every sound within the fixed audio track was derived from one Steinway grand piano. Samples were taken that involved knocking on different parts of the instrument, plucking the strings, activating upper harmonics with sudden impulses, and many other methods. Pads constructed from the decay of plucked strings bring an organic twinkle to the mix; they offer utterances that illustrate delicate rays of sunlight dancing through tree branches to meet the eye for sharp moments at a time.
