Glitterbox Radio Show 227: Presented By Melvo Baptiste

Before NDYD I used to be part of a DJ coalition in LA called the West Coast Collective (WCC). We were House DJs that mainly played Soulful and Jackin' but from time to time we would deviate to other styles that we loved. In my college days I was really into industrial and New Wave when I was a radio DJ in the college radio station but I was also a big fan of Hip Hop and especially G-Funk (imagine that).

Quite a few years ago, while I was still part of the WCC,  I made this mix where I went back to those days. A listener reached out and reminded me of it cause it was on other platforms online but no more. After much digging I found the original MP3 of the set I had done and here it is back again. Enjoy!

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
