DEEP pres "Venice Gets Deep" for Thanksgiving feat Ricardo Torres "Live" 11.27.13

I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

A spunky selection of songs, real pleasing to the ear

On Saturday August 10th, I got together with a couple of friends as we were all going out to the Venice Gets Deep underground event thrown by Deep Events in Venice Beach, CA. It was an amazing night of music curated by Marques Wyatt but it ended at 2am that night (it usually goes later) and my friends and I were not ready to call it a night. I took an executive decision and invited a small group of people to my place (I live in Venice) to continue the music flow we were all experiencing. We got to my studio, I turned on the decks, set up my recorder and started digging in the thumb drives. 3 plus hours later the music was still bumping and the sun was coming up. I love nights like these where the music gives you the energy to keep going and you just get inspired by your friends' reaction to the tracks you dig out. I'm really happy how this 'live' unexpected recording turned out with a nice variety of Edits, House, and Deep House tracks that I usually don't play out but that I love.

Hopefully this recording will give you a hint of the great vibe we were all experiencing at my place, Boiler Room style :)

Duster has the classical Soukie & Windish groove with a great atmosphere and cool vocals. Flott is a perfect summer groover with a fresh sound and a great bassline.

Welcome to EP-122 of the NDYD Radio Show. This week we have a special guest mix from NDYD's friend Jørn Sørheim (@jornsorheim).

Jørn started djing in -97 and got his fist residency as a 19 year old in -99 in central Stockholm, Sweden. His main venues included places like Soap Bar, Calle P and No.18. Since then Jørn has been djing at all the major venues in Stockholm.

He is mainly influenced by legendary artists like Depeche Mode, U2, Stevie Wonder and Prince as well as a variety of modern indie artists.
Through a balanced technique where consideration for both environment and artistry and modern creativity is accounted for – Sørheim joins the old and the new in a modern cocktail of styles – handmade for the venue. In the bar – this is often represented by modern r’n’b, indie/nu-disco and deep house classics. On the dancefloor – by a more electronic clubsound.

As a DJ Jørn represents creativity through classic sounds. A creativeness primarily made through a pair of classic vinyl turntables rather than the latest in dj tech.

Welcome to EP-146 of the NDYD Radio Show. This week we have Mr Bootsauce out of Los Angeles coming back to the program for his second appearance. He was one of our original guest when he did EP-12 two years ago. A lot has happen since then as he has blown up in terms of his productions and DJing. 

Fueled by phat infectious grooves, and influenced by nostalgic retro ranging from Prince to Faith No More, Mr. Bootsauce is determined to craft the next joint to deliver sweat on the dance floor. 

Born & raised in Montreal with a healthy upbringing as a drummer in jazz fusion, rock and soul - his thirst to craft timeless songs is what keeps his wheels turning. "No matter where music takes me, I always wanna feel as if I'm barely scratching the surface. Music has taught me a lot, and I know that I have something cool to offer back thanks to all the music and artists I've worked with in the past years." 

Recently evolving in Los Angeles, Mr. Bootsauce continues to challenge his curiosity while raising the bar in wide ranges of house music mixed with some little flavors of funk & nu-disco.

Gabija EP is the last release of the year by the acclaimed producer from Mannheim Gorge aka Pit Waldmann. The Ep starts with 'Gabija,' a sublime piece crafted with extraordinary musical care where synths have the leading role, and drums give the organic sense.

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
