From a ravey, Blade Runner-esque start, flowing into an old-school ‘90s Love Parade rave clip, this set is unadulterated techno at its finest, kicking into hammering blocks and punchy transitions at an escalating tempo. Picking up speed, it’s one of those relentlessly groovy sessions that keeps you guessing at every turn of the mix and with each choice of track. Sharp thunders shape the vibe: body-shaking techno with top-notch technique. A superb 360-degree selection of vocals (spot the Easter egg mid-set), leading into warehouse echoes, UK garage, dub, and jungle. Multiple moods: euphoric, full-on, piercing, hypnotic. Fresh from Stochastic Drift, Barker’s buzzing second album named Bleep Record of the Month alongside an exclusive 12”, Barker sends a mix that really digs deep into the unique sonic methodology he has constructed across his solo career width a suitable breadth for what is also a milestone in the series, Bleep Mix #300.

From Debiasing to Utility to Stochastic Drift, Barker has been reimagining club music without its definitive thump, instead driven by melody and tactile synthesis, and this selection of tracks expands Barker’s soundworld with a host of artists walking a similar path. “For this mix, I picked out some of my favourite uptempo ambient tracks, recorded at home with two decks and a mixer. It’s music I've used in a lot of different contexts, as a DJ and listener, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Though the occasional dancefloor thump makes itself known, such as on Adriana Lopez’ ‘What Lies Behind’, it’s mostly in quaking subs rather than actual four to the floor, providing some ground for this mix’s airy freeform variety to fly over. We have the wooden plunks and seaspray of Afefe Iku’s Kenyan island sound, the wonky gamelan of Tyler Friedman’s maze of bells and chimes, the dense atmosphere of shaker-produced rain and electrical chirps forged deep in the ruins of The Future Sound Of London.

The midsection of this mix contains some magic in particular: the maestro of drumless trance Lorenzo Senni creates motion from pure jagged synth energy on ‘The Power of Failing’, dissolving into the aether of an unreleased Barker track, which further discharges into the kaleidoscopic stutters of Caribou’s ‘Never Come Back’ with jubilant piano chords and vocal clips wrought into a glitchy, swirling maelstrom of Koreless' prickly warmth. Digital Justice’s ‘Theme From It’s All Gone Pearshaped’ follows, a timeless staple for anyone wishing to dabble in melodic motion and synthsmithery, or any DJ set seeking to add some lift without losing momentum, of which this mix is in no short supply.

For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride.

For our opening mix, we’re delighted to share a recent Steam Room session with the Bangkok-based selector and producer Sunju Hargun. 

For two hours, he delivered a masterclass of immersive, deep and psychedelic techno. And true to style, the set is a seamless flow of intricate rhythms and subtly shifting textures, shadowy grooves and pulsating basslines.  

This mix was mastered in the Area52 Studio.

We’re opening our new mixtape series Umwege — a dedication to the detours, connections, and encounters that shaped a year spent traveling through Germany’s dance music landscape.

For the first edition, we’re joined by TILS (@tils303), an upcoming artist from Haan, a small city between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal. Recently, he has been making a name for himself in NRW’s dance music scene with his DJ sets and music productions. His debut release just landed on Victor’s imprint Magic Power, marking the beginning of a promising journey.

When OK EG enters Varden it’s 8:30PM on Sunday. It’s been a slow and steady build during the day, much slower than the day before, people have been given time to rest properly from a late night on Saturday. This is the journey. The ebb and flow of the forest. It’s their job to get the crowd going for the last couple of interval sprints. They are well rested and ready.

OK EG’s expansive sound is deep and diverse. Their compositions display a range that shifts between delicate, textural soundscapes, and spiralling, mesmerizing, mind-trip techno.

They first went to Monument festival in 2024, taking a break from a residency at EMS in Stockholm to spend a weekend in the forest. They brought a field recorder with them and spent time on the riverbank recording the sound of stones and water.

And listen to this level of dedication; while preparing for their live set in 2025, they used those recordings to write a closing track called Monument Stone. This is what they said about it. ”In the moment of performing it at the festival, we felt that everything came together. The crowd, the music and the site connected and it happened just as we’d imagined it.”

During their set day turns to dusk. We transition together, ready for the night - the sound, nature, forest and lights. Hand in hand.

Monument Festival 2025 : OK EG (live)

If you are in need of a soundtrack to deepen your fall daydreaming, then you’ve come to the right place. I am very pleased to share this absolutely gorgeous transmission by Dallas DJ Gina G, whose mix encapsulates the very essence of Neptune’s influence. Both Gina G’s musical knowledge and vinyl collection are impressive, and she says it is @Lowfish’s album Eliminator (2000) on @suction-records, which she discovered in high school, that was her gateway to electro, techno and house. Since then the visual artist and aspiring producer has played one-off gigs and held residencies at venues throughout Dallas, and her next show happens on October 20th, alongside @txconnect aka Gavin Guthrie, Chaperone and Marion Gulliet.
