GRAIN aka Gaurav Raina. One half of India’s biggest electronica export – Midival Punditz, Gaurav is no stranger to pushing the envelope till it gives in. After over a decade and a half of Midival Punditz, Gaurav’s solo project – GRAIN is about going back to the roots and producing quality music.

From being DJ’s in Delhi clubs to making their own music and releasing 3 studio albums, Midival Punditz began making electronica when it was just starting out in the West. Eventually leading to the conception of Asian Electronica, Midival’s journey has now come a full circle with both Tapan and Gaurav venturing out under individual monikers while still continuing to play together.

As a producer, Gaurav has earned varied experiences working with the likes of Anoushka Shankar, Karsh Kale, Sting and Norah Jones. As an artist, he has performed with international names such as Alicia
Keys, Norah Jones, Usher etc as well as composed background scores for Bollywood films including Dum Maro Dum, Karthik Calling Karthik and Soundtrack.

A DJ who plays cross-genre, experimental sets and explores new scenes and sounds, GRAIN’s music flows from Electronica to Indian Electronica and Drum n Bass to Dubstep. Born from Gaurav’s personal desire to write songs and vocal tracks, GRAIN’s tracks started out as experiments with Karsh Kale and then with Talia Bentson. Once Karsh and Gaurav wrote their track It’s All Right, GRAIN’s entire sound emerged clearly.

Now spending time in his studio fine tuning his first album titled Grey to Silver, GRAIN has been unleashing his new brand of music at live gigs and intimate listening sessions. His upcoming album will also feature a series of intense collaborations with some of the most original and inspiring artists from India. The album is an exploration into lyrical songwriting, gritty textures and deeper sounds with a universal accent and features co-labs with Karsh Kale, Anoushka Shankar, Monica Dogra, Ankur Tewari, Brooklyn Shanti, Talia Bentson and Bhrigu Sahni.

For over ten years, Chennai based four piece The F16s have been churning towards an ongoing refinement of their vision. From their 2013 debut Kaleidoscope, to the 2014 studio tie up with Converse that birthed "Nobody's Gonna Wait", through to their 2016 breakthrough "Triggerpunkte", this vision has mirrored both a maturity of execution and a certain gravity from listeners worldwide - as ten million plus Spotify streams and coverage in StereoGum, Brooklyn Vegan, Variety and Sirius XM clearly suggest.

Then came “Is It Time To Eat The Rich Yet?”. Borne of an extended evolutionary sojourn as authored from an observer’s distant stare, the record focuses on intimately experiencing how a global pandemic needlessly compromised not only the lives of millions here in India, but more personally their own. This music explores alienation with lyrical wit intact - “dancing to our doom” as one member frames it - via a wide reaching musical craftsmanship that serves to pull listeners in, almost by the juxtaposition of these sentiments; A joyful celebration of the human condition under duress, scored by some of the finest pop music this country has on offer.

The band have plenty more on the way, embarking on yet another national tour to cement themselves as one of the country's most bankable independent acts while training one eye on international attention.

The Supersonics

The Supersonics were already hard-boiled veterans of the live music circuit when their maiden al-bum Maby Baking exploded into the scene. The recordings captured the raw energy of their adrenaline-soaked live performances, won the band a diehard nationwide following, and is counted far and away as one of the definitive examples of homegrown rock ’n’ roll. 

The last five years have seen the band tour extensively, with a calendar that reads like a who’s who of prestige venues, including UK’s Great Escape Music Festival, Hard Rock Cafe, Blue Frog, NH7 Weekenders, Puma Loves Vinyl, the Roadkill Tour, the Indiecision Tour and the debut run of the Red Bull Tour Bus. 

All that touring makes for a tighter, hotter band, and when The Supersonics hit the studio for the second time early this year, they took the gigging spirit right into the recording booth, improvising, digging deep into their rock ’n’ roll roots, taking risks and having a whole lot of fun. 

The new tracks have been doing the rounds with music industry insiders and fellow musicians, and have been unanimously hailed as the most eagerly awaited music release of the year. 

The Supersonics’ second studio outing is supported by Red Bull and produced by longtime collaborator and “fifth member,” the legendary Miti Adhikari.

Ananda Sen

Singer/songwriter and guitar player, Ananda is the band’s driving force and creative powerhouse. A highly meticulous craftsman, Ananda is notoriously difficult to satisfy and manically pushes himself and the band to play, sing, write and arrange better, taking the band’s already formidable abilities to newer levels. It’s a standing joke in the band that all their songs are about Ananda’s various issues. Thankfully, his issues are far from resolved and fans can rest assured there are plenty more songs where the last ones came from.   

Nitin Mani

Lord of the low end, bass player Nitin Mani is Avinash’s able partner in the rhythm section. In the heat of a live show, when the guitar players are stretching sonic boundaries, Nitin keeps it all grounded with tight grooves and a knowing smile. Fond of exotic basses and puns in (almost) equal measure, Nitin is the kind of bandmate you can put your Mani on.

Rohan Ganguli

Lead guitarist and backing vocalist of The Supersonics, Rohan’s tasty licks and soaring harmonies are among the most recognisable elements of the band’s signature sound. Equally comfortable with blues, progressive rock, punk and rock ’n’ roll, Rohan is a genre-bending craftsman, doing his thing like a true rock star, with an air of studied nonchalance.  

Avinash Chordia

Prolific, untiring and rock steady, Avinash Chordia is always ready to try out a new groove, play another encore, or take it from top one more time. Avinash’s superb understated work on the skins forms the bedrock of the band’s sound. Behind the strong, silent exterior, Chordia conceals a wicked sense of humour. If you ever catch the band cackling, it’s probably because he’s cracked another joke, most likely at your expense.

BASSFoundation is a crew originally formed in New Delhi, playing and promoting drum & bass, dubstep and reggae-dancehall in India and abroad. The collective consists of deejays Big Daddy Klein and Praxis, with Delhi Sultanate on the mic.

Formed back in early 2009, BASSFoundation were one of the first crews to promote drum & bass and dubstep in India, and the first ever regular night to hit New Delhi. Almost four years on and the scene is thriving, with a range of home-grown producers and DJs, and underground and established names from all over the world regularly touring the country.

BASSFoundation’s combination of the traditional reggae sound system format with newer electronic genres has drawn a large, dedicated following at their own jam-packed monthly nights in Delhi, as
well as numerous gigs across the country and further afield. Musically they rep a broad spectrum of drum & bass, from melodic soulful flavours and reggae-tinged sounds to deeper rollers, as well
as mixing things up with jungle, dubstep and dancehall. BASSFoundation’s ever-growing box of dubplates features specials by leading recording artists from Jamaica and the rest of the world.
Delhi Sultanate – with his background as a dancehall MC – provides unique and uncompromising, politically-conscious lyrics, reflecting the fiercely non-commercialist ethos of the crew. They have played to capacity crowds at almost all of the major venues in India, as well as being regulars at the Sunburn, Holi Cow and NH7 festivals.

In 2012 they were invited to play at Outlook Festival in Croatia - Europe's largest and most respected bass music and sound system culture festival, featuring the biggest artists in world. BASSFoundation were also asked to host the official Delhi Outlook Launch Party, which featured D&B legend Alix Perez, as one of three ground-breaking events across India (co-organised by Krunk).

Promoting underground music further, BASSFoundation regularly host some of the scene’s best names from India and abroad. Guest artists have included: Ant TC1 (Dispatch Recordings), Alix Perez (Shogun Audio), Nymfo (Critical), EBK (Renegade Hardware), Shiva Soundsystem, REDS, Klute
