About "Is Now Not Enough?": The opening piece explores the restlessness and insatiability of the human spirit. The same invisible force that propels migrating birds and fish, seems to stir the imagination in search of the ideal and the transcendent, but can it ever be truly found? The music echoes the themes I have explored earlier in my poem entitled "Unfurling":

Be still my soul 
What is your unfurling? 
Your trembling? 
Your flutter? 
What is your ache? 
A void that's ever empty 
What is your shape 
That I may fill it? 
Chords unstrummed? 
Songs unsung? 
Words unspoken? 
Colors unseen? 
A flock of geese

114 - Confused About Batman

Marc Ribot/Tom Waits-esque track. Complete with sloppy guitars, fuzzy vocals, nontraditional song form, and some blues rhythms. And a few Eric-esque touches for good measure. This is what happens when homework doesn't get done.

Handle It

Chord progression and really simple melody I came up with, and some playing over the changes. Hopefully going to expand on this idea more soon.

Clown In The Moon is adapted from the homonymous Dylan Thomas poem. To me, the otherworldly timbre of vibraphone was the obvious choice to carry this text’s dissociative melancholy. The voice and vibraphone imitate one another quite a lot, but never lapse into homophony. This mimics the disorienting codependence of grief and beauty articulated in the text. 
I let the text guide my writing. A good example of how is my treatment of the word “rift”: it is separated from its antecedent phrase by a chromatic ostinato of syncopated 16th notes, then silence. The word itself straddles a fractured motif, too - the 16th note figure transposed down by a major 2nd, followed by a tritone leap into a static, fortissimo whole note. 
While the above is an extreme example, it is my intention that even the subtler gestures compel listeners to savor the dignity and importance of the words they exist inside.
