ERIC ALEXANDRAKIS Silver Moon [A Tribute To Michael Nesmith]

Produced, performed, recorded and arranged by Eric Alexandrakis in first takes on a 16-track recorder.

On December 10, 2021, pioneering songwriter Michael Nesmith [The Monkees],
who is also the inventor of MTV, and a major influence upon the development of  the home video market, passed away at  the  age of 78.  His  passing  has  left  a  hole  in  the  world,  but  his influence lives on forever.

As a songwriter and overall innovator, Nez has been a great influence upon my music.  His passing affected me greatly and pushed me to record a cover of his solo classic “Silver Moon” from his 1970 album LOOSE SALUTE.  I’ve been wanting to record this song for many years, but as life tends to get in the way, I suddenly found myself drawn to giving Nez a send-off to his next cosmic journey, in my own way.  So I fired up my 16-track recorder, played all of the instruments myself in first  takes to keep it spontaneous, singing through guitar pedals, and released my version of “Silver Moon” 20 days after Nez’s passing...on his birthday.

Silver Moon [A Tribute To Michael Nesmith]

“Nor’easta” is an album of fiddle driven dance tunes and songs in the tradition of the Northeast New England Region and upper Appalachian region of New York State that reaches into the Canadian provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the migration path of my ancestors and family.
The music on this is album is a mix of American Roots, Acadian/Celt in the style that emanates from the dance, concert and town halls, granges, parks and bars that I have performed in throughout this region for most of my professional music career.
The songs on “Nor’easta” tell the stories of traveling throughout the region bringing fiddle and song joy to venues in the Northeast to the Underground Railroad in Portland, Maine’s “Munjoy Hill”.
It can get cold up here in the Nor’east for 6 months of the year as sung in the songs “No Way Out” and “Lament for the hopeful”. Playing and dancing with the fiddle creates much warmth in these months. These Acadian/Celt/ American Roots are in my blood and my family history.

Thing with many of these tunes is, the vocals get more intriguing as tune progresses, so they have to be heard from beginning to end :)
