The Oklahoma City-based label @fixedrhythms’ motto is “electronic music curated by intuition and love,” which is one way to make it clear that it is not a by-the-books techno imprint. The label, which Taylor McKenzie and Stewart Whitmarsh started in 2018, is a thoughtful collection of electronic music that spans multiple styles. And Fixed Rhythms uses their middle American location as an asset, not a liability—from their OKC perch, they can make moves that sidestep (or not) big city conversations around genre conventions in underground music.
