I read a lot of Dr. Seuss books when I was a kid and the book I took the title from is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. All Dr. Seuss books make incredible adult songs. I was reading the book to my kids and I realized Dr. Seuss wrote so many smart things in it that even adults don’t tell each other. 16 Horsepower looms large in the Alternative Tentacles catalog, and over the entire alt-Americana musical landscape. Secret South is a cornerstone to this Denver band’s legacy, their first indie outing after departing A&M, recorded at Hamilton Glory Lodge outside Blue River, Colorado, in 2000. This album has long been out of print in America (originally released on Razor and Tie) and only available on vinyl in a very limited edition in Europe through Glitterhouse. As rural gothic goes, one cannot do much better than David Eugene Edwards and company, with their use of acoustic old-time instruments mixed with the impassioned vocals and fire-and-brimstone lyrics (excepting a cover of Dylan’s “Nobody ’Cept You”). Additional surround-sound mix of the album by producer Bob Ferbrache (Blood Axis, Soul Merchants) for this release is included on the DVD-audio format for both the 180-gram black vinyl LP and the CD.

Fink - 'See It All'

Fink returns with the second single from his 3rd album of his Ninja Tune Records trilogy, “Sort of Revolution.” 

“See It All,” one of the album’s signature tracks, is blessed with falling piano lines, pulsing electric bass, and a driving rhythm which combines relentless propulsion with sublime subtlety. “Q&A” finds Fink in a deeply soulful and moody a cappella, building a tune from his own vocal parts - layers of harmony buzzing through your ears, as warm and rich as it is clever and hypnotic. Both of these tracks were recently recorded live on Fink’s latest Gilles Peterson Maida Vale session for BBC Radio 1, while the LP version of “See It All” has just been confirmed as the opening track on the season premiere on the longstanding and now infamous TV show CSI:NY. 

Remixes come from D*L*I*D (fresh from their stunning remix of Phoenix's "1901" single, this remix is only their second!), Emika (Ninja Tune's latest signing, bringing Berlin heaviness to the table), and Fink’s dub alter-ego, Sideshow (critically lauded and internationally sharing 12's with Martyn, remixing Appleblim, and releasing albums on Aus Music). D*L*I*D channels the spirit of J-Dilla, turning the original into a super-heavy head-nodder. Label-mate Emika turns the original into a dark and brooding epic that builds towards a huge finale – a la Massive Attack with serious skunk-paranoia. Sideshow once again showcases Fink’s production cred with an echo box and compression chamber, skillfully stripping the parts and fitting them together into brand new shapes. 

Fin Greenall, aka Fink, is among the more understated of the world’s ‘singer-songwriters’, relying on uncompromising quality of work and an astounding stage presence, rather than major label marketing budgets. A master lyricist and in-demand songwriter, having most recently co-written with John Legend for Legend’s ‘Evolver’ LP as well as two of Ninja Tune’s latest signings: Andreya Triana and Emika. Currently touring the UK with band mates Guy Whittaker on bass and Tim Thornton on drums, Fink is as hectic as ever with a tour of France throughout October; November spent in China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam; the USA in December; and Australia (including 3 headline evenings at the Sydney Festival) and Japan in January.
